Help! Still no closer to finding a name we both like

So I am now 37wks and we are still no closer to finding a name we both like, we don't know the sex and are in France so we only get 3 days to register name post birth. Thought I would list our long shortlist (not that there are any we can agree on those I really like DH does not and vice versa) and see if anyone can come up with any other suggestions. Also need to sound nice pronouced in French and I also want to avoid top 100 although I have seen some of those on the list are now in the top 100 but we may use as middle name. Also need to be careful on what name may mean with the French pronunciation ... ie Grace would be pronounced Grasse meaning 'fat', and Viola could be construded as meaning viole la meaning rape her. We are also avoiding the trad and common french names, would like something a bit more unusual.
So here we go ...

Wow, no wonder you are having trouble, those lists are mammoth! My favourites are Milo and MAtilda. Also really like Olive.

Seeing as you seem to like quirky out there names, what about Fox or Caspar?

A friend of mine is called Fabienne, which I think is so lovely.

I know! As I was typing I was thinking we should both pick 20 off the list and if any the same that could be our short list ... with perhaps one or two wild cards we can add to try and persuade the other one ... I am still trying to persuade DH on a couple . I liek Caspar but know a little Caspar so that is out. Like Matilda but not keen on French pronunciation and it is v common in France and my mums close friends grandaughter in Tilly (shortened from Matilada!) I find it so mind boggling and just cannot see how I can decide without seeing his/her little face to know if it suits! Does not help that DH and I have very different tastes!

My favourites are
Quentin/Quinn and Cyrus for a boy
Allina and Elizabeth for a girl

Fifi2406 · 20/11/2012 16:36

Raphael or Artie for a boy

Willow or olive for a girl

My favourite is Alfred for a boy (because you can call him Alfie, and he can just have Alfred for when he's an adult and needs something for a job application form!!)

For a girl I like Eliza, I think it is a very pretty name (however my middle name is Elizabeth so I'm maybe just bised :D lol)

I'm only 13+2 and already stressing about names - we're not going to find out the sex either, but me and my partner have very different ideas for names!

Alisvolatpropiis · 21/11/2012 11:43

Arlo/Raphael/Finn are the best of the boys in my opinion.

Orla/India/Athena/Isla out of the girls.

Pasiphae · 21/11/2012 11:57

Wooh! Massive list!
I like:
Arlo, Parker, Arthur (but the 'th' pn issue would put me off),
Ezra, Perin/Elvin (interesting ones, but the in pn in English would put me off)
Cosmo, Artie, Percy, Saffron (but surely that is for a girl?),
Aldo (not to be used in France when adults will remember Aldo Maccione),
Caspein (Casper/ar, Caspian are way better or Gaspard the French equivalent).
Thelonius: A bit big maybe? Quinn, Jethro (but the th thing again)
Alfred , Balthazar, Walter, Art, Cyrus.

Eliza (pn issue) , Greta, India (pn won't be the same, though), Ruby, Liberty, Athena (th again), Cora, Gwendolyn, Blossom, Luna (u versus oo issue), Saffron, Bluebell, Iris,
Violet (maybe Violette? note: a lot of French people don't like using that name because of Viol being the French equivalent for rape).
Elizabeth (Letty), Cherry (cute but too close to Cherie, Darling in French).
Delilah, Matilda, Willa, Edith but the TH thing again, Elsie, Olive.

Cannonball Grin

If it's any reassurance, I was in exactly your position a few weeks ago. After months of discussion and heart-ache, we finally picked names on the way to the hospital and now have a wonderful 2week-old daughter who has a name that we both love. It may seem stressful at the moment but you will get there.

You have some absolutely beautiful names on both of your lists so I'm sure you will choose a fantastic name!

Hopeful my middle name is Elizabeth too, I often thought I would prefer it to my first name! I like Eliza but it is well up in top 100 now, similarly to Willow which I love, I love Liberty and am deperately trying to sway DH but it is a def no at the moment ... although I did say if a girl it could be Liberty Cannon to try and persuade him! (Cannon is in French baby name book so we may get away with as a middle name!)

Pasipahe thanks for the input, did not realise that Gaspard was the equiv of Caspian.

and Elles thanks for the reassurance, I am far more preoccupied with a name than the birth ... figure the name is for life the birth well hopefully not that long!!
