Isaac in Ireland? Really like it but discarded it due to the fact that it is sooooo popular in the uk and usually Ireland follows suit! Also has it become a chavvy name in the uk and do you all like it or has it become blah from overuse?? TIA

I have a brand new nephew called Isaac; afaik it's not overly popular here (UK, London for BIL, South for us)

I know 3 Isaacs, I'm in Dublin...... I think it's getting more popular but don't let that stop you if you like it!

I'm in Dublin and I don't know of one but it wouldn't surprise me to hear it either. Does that make sense?

Also I think that a name that is popular in England will be popular in Ireland too, maybe less so and not as quickly because the usage of Irish names dilutes the popularity of an English name but the patterns are similar.

I'm in the UK (London) and I don't think I know any Isaacs, quite a few Zack's and an Isaiah, but no Isaacs.

I don't know about Ireland but it isn't a chavvy name in the Midlands of England, despite it's growing popularity. I'd say it's quite middle-class name.

And I think it's a beautiful name :)

A bible name is safe I would have thought. Obviously different demographics choose different names but it's never carved in stone.

If I saw Izaak I might think ofgs, kr8v, but Isaac spelt correctly, you'd have to be Julian Fellowes to look down on it, and there can be too much class consciousness. A little bit I understand, and a little bit is prudent for your children's sake, but worrying that a correctly spelt bible name is chavvy.... I think you should relax!

Can't comment on Ireland but I don't know any in Yorkshire or Scotland. Personally I love it and wouldn't think of it as chavvy (and I'm a complete snob when it comes to chav names!). How about Zachary? Only know one of those in his teens.

I don't know any Issacs down south. It doesn't sound chavvy to me either.

It is one of the old testament names that was once only used by religious people, Jews, Christian & Muslim (Ishaq) but is now used by anyone. It isn't overly popular but expect a couple in an average sized primary.

I'm in West Yorks - I don't know any Isaacs in RL. Not overused round here.
It's a nice name, classical biblical.

I think when some people say a name is 'chavvy' what they mean it has an appeal across the board and what they want is a name that would be actively disliked in some quarters. There's nothing wrong with a name that doesn't nail its colours to the mast iykwim.

Virtually unused in SW Ireland, not chavvy.

Plenty of Zachs though.
