anyone Swedish (or scandinavian) here?

A friend has just named her son Erling and I was wondering what a Swedish person would think of the name? Is it well known in Nordic countries or is it very old fashioned? I've heard of Erland but not Erling.

To give background, they live in Sweden and the mum is English and the dad swedish

I would have said it's a surname, but wikipedia tells me otherwise, i.e. can be both.

I live in Sweden and work with kids, I have never met an Erling. it isn't in the top 100 and to give you an idea how few babies need to be given a name for it to show in the top 100 the name we have choosen is number 90 and 119 babies were named "our" name last year. So Erling is rare for babies, my DP has said it's an old man's name.

Thanks for the replies. I suspected it was quite old fashioned. But old fashioned in UK seems to be the new fashion, so wasn't sure if that was the case in Sweden as well.

I quite like it (not that it's any of my business what they call their son) and I know they were trying to avoid anything too Swedish which would be particularly difficult to pronounce in English
