Just heard of this name today and really like it! What do you all think....do you know of any?

I know it's a real name but it does sound a bit made up, iyswim.

Could you use it as a nickname for something instead?

MelanieWiggles · 10/11/2012 22:37

There was an Eppie in George Eliot's book Silas Marner.

TheReturnOfBridezilla · 10/11/2012 22:38

I know an Eppie, think it's very pretty.

The only downside is a really horrible phrase I have heard now and then to "throw an eppie" short for epileptic fit but meaning reacting in anger iyswim.

borisjohnsonshair · 10/11/2012 22:38

It sounds like a nickname, rather than a proper one. Is it a girl or a boy?

manicinsomniac · 10/11/2012 22:39

as in an epi-pen? Is that how you say it?

It's a nice sound I guess. I doesn't sound like a name to me though. Where does it come from? Is it short for anything?

Felicitywascold · 10/11/2012 22:40

Never heard of it to be honest. It sounds made up and derogatory to me (although I'm happy to accept I'm wrong. But I don't think I'd be alone in my thoughts).

Tincletoes · 10/11/2012 22:41

I think it's short for Hephzibah.

It does also make me think about people "throwing an eppy" although I've since heard that was short for episode rather than epileptic fit.

TheReturnOfBridezilla · 10/11/2012 22:45

Really Tincle? That's slightly better - I've obviously just been thinking the worst of those around me! Grin

KenDoddsDadsDog · 10/11/2012 22:50

Having an epi is definitely episode.

AreYouAbleMabel · 10/11/2012 22:52

It's a nn for Hepzibah, Euphenia or Penelope! But can also be used as a name in its own right. Dermot Gavin the gardener has a dd called Eppie. It's also in the hook Silas Marner but as a nn! I think phrase throwing an eppy must be regional as i have never ever heard it but I'm from Ireland!

I snorted! Grin
Sorry Blush

CanonFodder · 10/11/2012 22:53

My first reaction to the title was 'pen' as in the thing you use when you have an allergic reaction. Sorry.

i love it.

lottiegarbanzo · 10/11/2012 23:01

I'm afraid epileptic fit is my first thought. How about Effie?

Panzee · 10/11/2012 23:01

It could be short for Eponine too. Very topical with the new Les Mis film coming out.

youonlysingwhenyourewinning · 10/11/2012 23:06

My first though was Eponine (Les Mis).

It does sound nicknamey ...and French.

I rather like it ...

ecuse · 10/11/2012 23:13

I thought "have an epi" first, and then "epi-pen" immediately after, sorry

Flojo1979 · 10/11/2012 23:16

I thought of epilator first

B1ueberryMuffin · 10/11/2012 23:41

Eppie pen.

B1ueberryMuffin · 10/11/2012 23:43

Diarmuid Gavin Areyouablemabel. Dermot is Bannon. Get your gardeners and your architects straight! I'd like Dermot to do my kitchen and Diarmuid to do my garden. I'd be happy then.

photographerlady · 10/11/2012 23:45

Aye I thought eppie pen too

NervousAt20 · 10/11/2012 23:48

My first thought was epileptic fit aswell sorry

It's really not my cup of tea at all

HolyBrrrrrrBatman · 11/11/2012 05:12

It makes me think of Silas Marner, that's the only time I've heard it before. I love that book and Eppie is lovely in it. It is short for Hepzibah though, which is awful.

sashh · 11/11/2012 05:35

Reminds me of eppipen
