What do you think of James Evan? He would use Evan though. DP is very keen, I'm not in love with it really but don't dislike it.

It's a gorgeous name, IMO. One of the loveliest Welsh boys names. Why James Evan and not Evan James?

I don't understand why you would choose to call your dc by their middle name. Surely it just leads to a lot of confusion through life.

The Evans that I know say it Eh-van with the e as in elephant.

I think if you say it with the E from Even it sounds more like Ifan.

But in its original welsh form that's how it is said- Eevan (as in Ifan)

Ifan would be more phonetically correct in welsh for Evan, but the families that I know who have chosen it have used the more anglicised spelling for the sake of the rest of their non welsh families.

Yes- it's spelt E-V-A-N and pronounced "Ee-van"

I'm welsh first language and my great grandfather had this name. My friend's brother also has it and I have three friends with it- all Welsh families, all spelt Evan and all pronounced "Ee-van" (As in Ifan)

I'm not sure why but I assumed that OP was English and would be intending to say Eh-van,much like how Dylan is said as Dillan in England.

We have an Evan with an Eh-van - we're not welsh and have no welsh ancestry!

We went with the Greek meaning of the name - it means Little Warrior :)

He is Evan Jon in full, it suits him, I love it and I too prefer Evan James to James Evan

It does get a bit annoying that everyone assumes we have welsh connections, but hey ho it could be so much worse!!!!

Surreal- Evan and James are our top two boys names at the mo though think Evan out on top. Traditional but not common and suits all ages.

It should be pronounced air-van IMO not air-vun.

Ours is an Evan Rhys!

We also wanted traditional but not overused and I have to say it suits ours perfectly!!
