I like traditional names - I already have an Elizabeth Amy Grace, an Edward James and a Sarah Elsie Rose - now baby #4 is nearly 6 weeks old, and I've made an appointment with the registrar for Friday, but still undecided on the name (we've just moved house, and its been chaotic to say the least). We think we're set on Charlotte, and we'd like her to have two middle names. My favourite at the moment is:

Charlotte Madeleine Mary

Dh is a bit Hmm about Madeleine because of the Madeleine McCann connection, but the mw that delivered her was called this, and it was her birthday the day she delivered her too, so it just 'fits' in my book. Mary is a family name on dh's side, so I'm not as keen, but thats our kind of compromise, one name we both really like (if you're with me!). I really wanted her to have 'pretty girlie' middle names like Lily, Poppy, Honey etc, but we haven't come up with anything we're both happier with, so just throwing it open to hear what people think before I have to sign on the line on Friday. We've obviously already used up 6 girls names...

Feel really tentative about this but am prepared for the positive and negative responses, just go easy on me please!! Thank you so much for your thoughts.

Congratulations! You've chosen a really lovely name there.

exoticfruits · 31/10/2012 22:09

Sounds lovely to me and goes with the others.

Alisvolatpropiis · 01/11/2012 00:11

It's a lovely name.

My OH always mentions Madeleine McCann, but it's not such a highly unusual name that it will be the first connection everyone makes! Men are odd sometimes.

happynappies · 01/11/2012 01:24

drseuss thank you [hgrin] I'll bear those suggestions in mind, I'm a teacher too and have taught a few 'unusual' name choices, but the main problem I have is associations with more normal names iykwim... Take your point about long name, just discussing that with dh, arghh this is so hard! Glad most people are not put off Madeleine though. Was swinging towards Catherine earlier in the evening, just one day to decide now!

happynappies I love your name choices!

I think Charlotte Madeleine Mae is very pretty, and I see somebody else has already suggested it!

i would call her Charlottle Madeleine Mary. i think middle names are not always your absolute favourites, but more names that have significance for you and your baby.

one of dc3's middle names is Garry. not a name i would have chosen, but the name of my great uncle who died the year he was born. in my averagely dysfunctional family, he was one of the few people with any real warmth, so i named my son after him. i think Madeleine is lovely connection with your daughter and how she came into the world, and Mary is for your dh's family. for those reasons, i would personally be happy to forgo the pretty girlie names

congratulations - your daughter has a beautiful name.

baskingseals · 01/11/2012 08:22

i would call her Charlotte - not Charlottle Grin

Ham69 · 01/11/2012 08:38

Lovely names. I agree with baskingseals, go with middle names that have a special meaning to you. That's what I did with my DCs and I'm so glad I did because middle names are so rarely mentioned, it's far nicer to have a story behind them. FWIW I love all three names and they go beautifully with your other DC's names. Good luck!

Thank you very much everyone for your reassurance and suggestions, I registered her this morning: Charlotte Madeleine Mary. Definitely feels right for us. What a lovely part of MN this is - everyone so friendly and helpful. Thank you Smile

Lovely!

I have a beautiful granddaughter named Madeleine. She is exactly the same age as Madeleine McCann would have been [9 last May].
I think your final choice is absolutely beautiful.

Viviennemary · 02/11/2012 17:37

I don't mind the name Charlotte. But I like the names you have given your other children much better. Not so keen on the two M's Madeleine Mary. Of the names I've seen here I like Esther, Louisa and Alexandra.

mathanxiety · 03/11/2012 04:12

One of the DDs has the MN Madeleine. She was born long before the McCann case. I think it's silly to avoid using a name based on a tragic event. You don't know what name will be in the headlines even the week after you choose a name. I would never have guessed that one day a girl named Madeleine would go missing.
I am still kicking myself for dismissing Monica from contention for DD3 because of the Lewinski business..

TwatasaurusRex · 03/11/2012 06:20

Another who thinks its fine, especially as a middle name.

Plokahontas · 03/11/2012 13:48

Yay, one of the nicest names I've ever read on here - absolutely beautiful :-)

Ham69 · 03/11/2012 13:54

Lovely. Congratulations.
