Can you turn Elian into an Irish name?

I really like the name Elian (El-le-an) but exp is insistent on an Irish name to reflect his background and also to fit in with my other childrens names.

It's a Hebrew name with welsh connections though.

Is there an Irish version that you know of?

It's a boys name.

Killian sounds similar?
Eanna

That's a toughie...

Cillian, not Killian. There are no K's in Irish!

Elian is based on a conjunction of two names - Elizabeth and Juan - so there is no Irish equivalent.

The closest I could find in terms of sound is Ailin

No, you can't magic names into Irish. They either are or they're not. Elian, isn't.

DinosaursOnASpaceship · 27/10/2012 12:20

Exp suggested Cillian but as hard as I try I just can't get my tongue round it and always pronounce it wrong. Even though it's simple to say. I like it when someone else says it, I just can't say it myself.

Might have used the wrong phrase - don't want to turn a name Irish, rather I am looking for the equivalent. A name that's pronounced the same but probably spelt totally differently.

Ailill - ay-leel

Eamon - ay-mun

Cian - kee-un

Feilim - fay-lum

By the way, why does exp get to 'insist' on a name?

Just call him Elian. It's a nice name, and you are doing the whole vagina-grapefruit thing.
