Seren

DH's family are Welsh and I have close connections to Turkey so we've been mulling over Seren which is Welsh for star and apparently also Turkish (although I've never met a Turkish Seren and can't work out the meaning).

What do people think? How popular is it in Wales (we are in the South East)? Does anyone know it's Turkish meaning?

DDs 1&2 have top 100 names so is Seren too unusual in contrast?

It's quite popular in wales, but not overused IMO. It's a really beautiful name.

Saw the title and my initial reaction was to say that I didn't like it. However, in the time it has taken me to add this message I can say that it is growing on me! Actually it sounds lovely.

Do not think it matters that your other DC have more usual names.

I think the Turkish name is only spelt similarly: Ceren. But pronounced completely differently as far as I can recall. Think it means gazelle?

We are in south east and ds's middle name is Seren. I love it.

Just did a search it means young gazelle and is pronounced S-rahn (I think)

If you put Seren into the search function on the right hand side of the page you will link to more than 500 threads, scroll down to baby names as a topic and you will see just how loved the name is. It doesn't mean that it is used though.

It is a great name and is currently very popular in Wales, as well as being a CBeebies character on Abadas, in that programme Seren is a very cute singing bat.

I'm welsh and live in North Wales- there are hardly any round here but think there are more towards the Wrexham area. (Friends daughter has four in her class) I actually don't like it at all, and even less so when it's not pronounced correctly (i.e. the welsh way). It does have a nice meaning behind it though, and plenty of people do like it- I just think of it as a horses name- sorry!

I like it but when I suggested it to DH he said it sounded like a dolphin's name.

It's top ten in Wales, nowhere near that in England, I love it!
