So, dd2 is due in the next few weeks and we've pretty much decided this will be the name. But wanted to canvas opinion before it's too late!

Anyone with strong feelings on our choice? If you hate it, can you try and say why - don't spare me, please!

We already have a Tessa.

I think I'm also put off by knowing various very nice spaniels and a large ginger cat all called Juno.

shinyblackgrape · 26/10/2012 13:09

PLEASE give her a middle name. I'm a lawyer and work with various unusually named people - all of whom seem to have opted for using their more traditional middle names.

I won't get in to whether that is right or wrong or they feel pressure to do that. However, at least they have an option.

shinyblackgrape · 26/10/2012 13:11

Ps - the do you know thing will last whether you give a middle name or not. It will carry over on to your last name or, alternatively, look like an an unanswered question left hanging if she is just introduced by her first name:

"have you met do you know Juno?"

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 26/10/2012 13:17

Oh, we're definitely giving her a middle name.

Actually Marianne was one of my other top contenders, but I've seriously gone off it.

Not sure about the worry that it will date - I did think of this, but it's really not very common at all, so unless it gets more popular it should be ok. That's my reasoning anyway!

shinyblackgrape · 26/10/2012 13:28

Ooooooh I love Marianne. I think it's so elegant and timeless. I

But, at the end of the day, if you love Juno you must use it whatever rude random strangers on the internet say

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 26/10/2012 13:31

See, that's why the internet is great. In real life people will nod and smile politely and never tell me what they actually think. It may not change my mind, but I want to know all the possible pitfalls before I choose a name.

holmessweetholmes · 26/10/2012 13:34

I never ever post on names threads, but Juno is a fab name. Go for it!

squoosh · 26/10/2012 13:34

There was a person on here a few months ago who wanted to call her daughter Beryl.

BERYL.

I was a bit horrified surprised but I suppose there's nothing actually wrong with the name it just isn't to any sane person's my taste. Variety is opinion is always interesting to hear.

squoosh · 26/10/2012 13:35

'in' opinion.

jaffacakehips · 26/10/2012 13:39

Love love it, oh my list but I'm still trying to convince DH.

shinyblackgrape · 26/10/2012 13:40

fruit - you're nice!

DH and I can't agree on a name at all for DS who is due in 4 weeks. I should post my list here so you can tell me you know an Alsatian called Rory or similar!

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 26/10/2012 13:44

Are you actually considering Rory? Because it was top of our boys list before we found out we are having a girl.

PuppyMonkey · 26/10/2012 13:46

I don't like it at all. Very pretentious. Also rReminds me of when people turn normal names into nicknames by adding an O.
John = Johno

Elizabeth is so much nicer IMHO.

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 26/10/2012 13:47

And Squoosh, I agree 100% about Clarissa. Also makes me picture a screaming brat in patent shoes.

OP posts:
shinyblackgrape · 26/10/2012 13:58

fruit - yes! I love it. DH currently vetoing it. Sob.

junowiththegladrags · 26/10/2012 13:58

Do it! It's one of my favourite names, obviously.
It is a classic name and in no way poncey.

jaffacakehips · 26/10/2012 14:18

Hahaha puppy that's my dads name. But the 'O' is his middle name which family use, as my grandad also has the same nameGrinGrin

we are horridly pretentious then

AreYouAbleMabel · 26/10/2012 14:31

Absolutely beautiful name.

boschy · 26/10/2012 15:05

Beautiful!

VolumeOfACone · 27/10/2012 17:14

Great name. :)

mathanxiety · 27/10/2012 19:27

I think Tessa and Juno is a lovely combination. Great names on their own too. Maybe the Do you know Elizabeth? bit would be eliminated by giving her your surname as a middle name instead of Elizabeth? Or a second middle name? It's not really important as middle names are rarely used along with the first name. As long as Juno goes with your surname it will be fine.
