DC1 is a boy so this is obviously a bit of an issue......

We found it much easier to pick a girl's name pre 20 week scan. But now we're having a DS and can't agree on a name at all

I like Rory. It's the only boys' name I really love. However, DH hates it. I also like Innes but not as much as Rory. DH hates that too. Basically, he hates every Scottish name I suggest as they sound "weird" to him. I suggested Charlie but DH vetoed that as it is the name of an ex of mine.

DH likes William. I hate that and also it's his Dad's name. I'm happy to have it as a middle name but not a first. Also, I want DS to have his own name not be named after family members as a first name.

DH also like Richard -I hate that too.

We can "compromise" on Guy and James but I don't really love either name and now the time is getting closer, I don't really want DS to have a name that I don't love. Jack is also an option. However, we would probably want it to be a shortened version of John or Jonathan. That is DH's name and I think we would sound ridiculous - like we thought we were the Kennedys or similar dynastic family. DH would luuuurve DS to be named after him though as it appeals to his megalomania Wink Grin. Also, I know that Jack is very popular so that puts me of.

I've got a baby name book and am going through it again but can you just suggest your favourite names to me? I'm just hoping that something pops out that I might have missed!

figgy- mil and fil had a dog called barrington. All of this is not assisted by the PILs calling their numerous Labradors various lovely names over the years such as Edward, Jed, Rupert etc so lots of these names are verboten!

figgy - forgot to ask:

1 what name did you finally go for; and

2 how did you finally break the deadlock?!

I've said to DH that I'll just go and register the birth myself and call DS Rory. DH has said if I do that, he'll change my name by deedpoll to Rory!

Agreed Claypole. Agreed.

But I'm not dealingbwithna rational, sentient being here.

The other card he plays is to veto names on the basis that he had an allegedly very difficult patient of that name or they were an alcoholic or smelled.

You wouldn't believe the number of smelly, alcoholic Rorys who attend his practice!

I loved Rory and Russell but dh was having none of it, he was ok with henry but we then decided we wanted a name that would shorten so in came Jonathan and Daniel. From when we knew it was a boy he was called little johnny and Everyone called him that so by time he was born i had gone off it. Dh didn't like Daniel but I did so we settled on official name Daniel but he's always called Danny now.

RE: James and Jamie

The nature of a nickname is that it is used sometimes by some people.

This only works if you are both happy with both versions, though, and others will choose to use either James or Jamie too.

My son doesn't seem confused by me calling him 'Mummy's Little Monkey' while his daddy doesn't Smile

Good luck deciding.
