If 1st child has 2 middle names does 2nd child need to have the same?

Just that really: I insisted that DD had two middle names, overruling DH, because I had 2 myself.

One of the middle names is a lovely and meaningful family name (my mums and my middle name), the other is a hormone-influenced more random choice that we're slightly embarrassed about. (old, though not unusual, welsh name).

So dc2 is due any day, we have lovely first names lined up and one middle name per gender, but does our second child need to have 2 middle names because our first does? Could it cause sibling issues in future?

It wouldn't be too hard to pick a second middle name at this stage, although it could be yet another hormone-influenced choice of course!

Thanks!

DS has two, DD has one, mostly because we couldn't find a "family" name that worked with the other two. It caused upset with my mother so not to be recommended.

The very very poor excuse is that DS's second middle name is after a late grandfather, whereas both DD's grandmothers are very much alive. That is a very poor excuse, and I actually realised not long ago that had we reversed the order her name could've worked with my mum's second name. Blush Too late now though.

my oldest 2 have 1 middle name, youngest has 2. it was because we wanted them all to have family name and something specificaly dutch and English (dh dutch, me english)

ds first name dutch and family, middle name english and family
dd1 first name dutch, middle name english and family
dd2 first name both (neither?), middle name 1 dutch and family, but then no link to english family so added middle name 2 english and family

so some sort of logic, non of the kids seem bothered that she has 2 and they have 1, they accept that we wanted to fit it all in, and because they each have a specially chosen family name in there, they don't feel left out.

DC1 has one; DC2 has two.

If we get lucky, I'm pushing for three for DC3! Grin

Both my boys have 3 middle names: 1 family name, 1 name chosen for them especially, and then they both have my "maiden" name. I wanted them to both be named similarly. If we have more DCs we will do the same.

I am the eldest and don't have a middle name, my sister has one. Why would I care?

Eh no! Haven't read the other replies but it's ridiculous to think you have to give the next one 2 middle names. I have 2 middle names but none of my three siblings do and it has never, ever been mentioned. It's such a non-issue. If you have 2 you like, go for it but don't think for a second that your second chi will be jealous of an extra name!
