I know it's a name in its own right but what can Finn be a shortening of?

I've found Finbarr, Finnegan and Finlay/Finley. Are there any others?

I really like Finn (and it's one of the only boys names we've been able to agree on) but our surname is only one syllable so it seems a bit short.

How about Huckleberry or Phinneas - you'd have to be brave though!

I know a Thorfinn.. but he's really always called finn.

I think finlay is the most common finn name.

Griffin? A bit Harry-Potter-ish, but still in use.

It might not bother you at all but there are 3 Finns (all Finlays/eys I think) in my dd's (age 4 class) and 2 in my ds's (ge 8).

No less than 6 of our friends have a baby (ish) Finn.

Finnan was the name my DS was going to be 10 years ago. Finn for short... so there is my contribution!

Finnian/Finian also an option (like my lovely nephew )

There are lots with the longer versions but no so many who are just Finn. My favourite of the longer ones is Finian then Finbar.Finlay/ley is just too popular atm I think.

But he will most likely be known as Finn which may not be great with a one syllable surname. We too have a one syllable surname and therefore went for 2syllable names that don't shorten generally - has worked so far.

I don't mind too much if a name is supposed to be popular at the moment if I don't know any other children with the same name then I'm OK with that.

I quite like Finnan but I can almost guarantee boring DP won't.

I know a Flynn. Bit different but sounds a lot like Finn?
