Brother for Annabelle

Help! I love Rupert, my dh won't consider it but he also won't engage in a conversation about names. Originally I had suggested Edward (Ted) and he now won't consider anything else, but I'm not convinced by it.
My list of possible names include, with dh comments:

Laurence (too feminine)
Gabriel (too religious)
Nathaniel (too American)
Jonathan (too like my dad's name)
Arlo (it's ur hormones)
Robert (no)
Fergus/Angus/Fraser (we're not Scottish)

He is driving me mad, do I need to accept Edward even though I just feel a bit 'meh' about it? Could he accept Rupert? Any suggestions of names would be gratefully received!!

I have an Annabelle and an Edgar. The other Annabelle I know has a brother called Daniel.

Other names on our list were Abraham, Barnaby, Dexter, Digby and Arthur.

How can you be "meh" about Ted????

The only other name I can offer you is Joseph.

My friends have Annabelle and Jack. It has a nice ring to it.

Rupert is cool and more interesting than Edward imo.

Not Daniel. Lovely name but you might end up with an Annie and a Danny.

An Annabelle I know has a James as a brother which is lovely

I do worry that it is the hormones making me like Rupert! Edward was my suggestion originally so I wonder if I'm just being stubborn, I just worry that it is quite common, or that it might sound a bit 'twilighty' with Annabelle ( we don't call our dd bella but it is still a belle name).
I really like some of your suggestions but for various reasons they can't br used (can't have s or h names, Patrick and Daniel are family members, names ending with 'ie' don't work with surname, or friends have used them). I mentioned Isaac the other day and it didn't get a complete rejection but my sister has it on her list so it would require some negotiation - also not sure about zac or issy as inevitable abbreviations.

Oscar, Otis, Max, Lucas, Christopher....

Someone else is up too! Otis is possibly too cool for us, I love Max but not keen on any of the long versions (and I would want a birth certificate name). The others have all been used my close friends/family.

I immediately though of Isaac then saw your post about it. I like Zac as a nn. It was our boy's name had DD been a DS.

Looking towards the future I can't imagine a Rupert being a bin man for instance, but Edward could be Ed for a bin man or Edward for a doctor it could would better. How about more traditional names:

What about Rufus instead of Rupert?
I liked Rupert but DH vetoed it for DS1(too posh apparently!)Then to my surprise happily agreed on Rufus for DS2!We love it but are obviously biased!

I thought of Edward from your thread title. I like it a lot. Choosing a name early can give us "name fatigue" I think - I certainly wobbled about both mine.

Sounds to me like you like traditional classics. Rupert is a bit much unless you know you will be in the private education / ski winters / Tuscany summers set.

Anste, I like that comparison. Your right Rupert would find it harder to fit into all life scenarios, and we are certainly not wealthy enough for private school.
Horatia, I think u have hit the nail on the head- I have name fatigue. I guess I am just fretting that there is a better name out there that we haven't considered.
I like Rufus, but unfortunately close friends named their dog Rufus so for me it is now too closely associated to animals.

Frederick as in Fred Perry and Annabelle (Annabel) Croft would give you a tennis player theme. Of course, most people's theme is names that don't sound stupid with their sur name!

Rupert, I can't imagine him picking up a tennis racket. He forgot his sun screen. He doesn't have the right shoes. He has a headache coming on.

How long have you got? Perhaps give yourself permission to decide on Edward but keep a shortlist just in case he doesn't look like an Edward on the day.

I was so sure with DC1 that not being able to find The Name for DC2 was a real headf*ck. Name fatigue definitely.

So we went back to the names books and websites and started from scratch ... and came up with exactly the same shortlist. Save yourself the hours!

i really like Arlo. fabulous name. i don't think it's just your hormones.
i like all your name. you probably do have name fatigue. give yourself a break for a bit and see what naturally comes up.
