What do we think of Edgar? With Ed or Eddie as a nickname?

Do you think it will become popular?

If you like Ed or Eddie I prefer Edward or Edmund - I can't see Edgar becoming popular and it's not my cup of tea if I'm honest.

If you went with Edward you'd also have the option of Ted or Teddy as nicknames which I think work quite well for different ages

Metronomy · 11/10/2012 09:52

I did have both Edward and Edmund on my list but my partner is not keen on either. I also used to like Ted/Teddy, but they are everywhere now so have since gone off!

I just love the way Edgar looks and sounds. It's kind of geeky, but I find it dashingly handsome! Worry that it'll be the next big thing though.

It's a bit eggy.

I like Edward, Edwin and Edmund though.

DialMforMummy · 11/10/2012 09:56

I like it a lot.

bigbluebump · 11/10/2012 13:28

I think Edgar is great and makes a refreshing change from all the little Edwards around. Edgar also works well in other languages. Great choice imo!

mayanna123 · 11/10/2012 13:46

I like Edgar! Would be a shame to shorten to Ed or Eddie though imo.

I like Edgar - then he can be a character in a book:

My kids loved these books and we went to see the author at a book festival and my son got to be Edgar when he got some of the kids to act out the characters - he still has a book signed to the "Best Edgar ever" :)

LynetteScavo · 12/10/2012 19:13

I really like it.
(But 10 year ago I liked Oscar and that became very popular, sorry)

Rhubarbgarden · 12/10/2012 21:29

I love Edgar.

LauraPalmerPlusOne · 12/10/2012 22:57

Great name - really love it myself but DP nixed from our list!

oldspeckledtam · 13/10/2012 17:40

I have an Edgar. It's a brilliant name and usually gets nice comments, once people understand he isn't Ed short for Edward...

MolotovBomb · 13/10/2012 17:46

I know an Edgar from Lithuania. He's in his mid-20s.

When I first heard his name, I didn't think much of it. But that totally changed when I spoke to him. He's interesting, creative, thoughtful and a great guy :)

Ihatepeas · 15/10/2012 09:25

I met a baby Edgar the other day ( central London) .. First one I have ever met in 15 years of childcare. He was French. I really like it!

Littlesurprise · 15/10/2012 09:48

AristoCats?

noddyholder · 15/10/2012 09:49

Its my middle name I love it!

Metronomy · 15/10/2012 09:50

Thank you. I think it's The One. We were going to go with Otto, but I think we'll use it as a middle name.

Our girl name is Greta :)

Your middle name or your ds's, Noddy?

noddyholder · 15/10/2012 09:56

mine

Rhubarbgarden · 15/10/2012 18:10

Otto is good too. Both were on our shortlist, we must have have the same taste! We went with Gus in the end.

Metronomy · 15/10/2012 19:35

Angus was on my list!

Sorry but I think it is horrid....but then I'm not into his whole really old fashioned name trend and I see I am in the minority.

Bunders99 · 16/10/2012 05:51

I love it. But I'm a big fan of old fashioned names. Our son is Ned, he was nearly Edmund or Edgar but we decided to keep it short. Can't see it becoming really popular either.
