Well, I'm having twins on the 31st. And I've fallen in love with the nickname Wolfie. I just love it. But I need a name to go with it! Wolf might be a bit odd, Wolfgang is definitely not on and he can't be a Wolfie on his own? Maybe a name which means wolf?

Wouldn't advise Adolf, though!

Faolan is an Irish name (pronounce fway-lawn) that means wolf. Similarly Connall and Connor are generally agreed to mean either 'wolf' or 'hound'. (Some baby name books say one thing, some another).

I quite like Wolfie on it's own actually.

From Behind the Name:

CONOR - Wolf Lover
CONAN - Little Wolf
LYCUS
RANDOLF

Wolfie's full name in the seventies sitcom Citizen Smith was Walter Henry Smith
[not very helpful fact] Smile

Thought I was the only one old enough to remember him Ham!

fuzzysnout · 07/10/2012 08:42

Are you naming a child or a dog?

Ham69 · 07/10/2012 08:44

Oops, showing my age Numberlock!

Numberlock · 07/10/2012 08:50

You mean you've seen it on YouTube like me Wink

Ham69 · 07/10/2012 08:57

That's exactly what I meant Smile

jaffacakehips · 07/10/2012 09:38

What about calling him William nn Wolfie?

I mean really you can give him any name you wish and just have a nn Wolfie. I have plenty of friends with the completely different nicknames to their actual birth certificate names!

i.e.: Bundle is Catherine, childhood nn that has stuck Grin

Or give him Wolfie as a mn and just call him by that. That way he has options in later life.

blueshoes · 07/10/2012 09:48

Wolfgang

perplexedpirate · 07/10/2012 09:52

Oh, Lycus is lovely!

Gwennan · 07/10/2012 09:59

Short of naming him Wolfgang or similar, I would give him another name you like and nickname him Wolfie.

For instance, 'This is my son James; we call him Wolfie.'

AntsMarching · 07/10/2012 10:01

Give him any name you like and call him Wolfie.

My daughter is nicknamed Bear. It has no resemblance to her actual name. She started with a nickname from her actual name and it kept mutating until it eventually became Bear, which she answers to.

In short, nicknames don't have to make sense/match/be derived from the actual birth certificate name.

YouMayLogOut · 07/10/2012 10:27

Agree with the suggestion to give him some other name and keep Wolfie for nickname only.

MadBusLady · 07/10/2012 10:58

Wilfrid?

LuellaLovesLavender · 07/10/2012 13:05

Wilf?
