These are the names I like today (let's bear in mind that yesterday it was Bede!).

What do we think?

Like all three of your new name ideas and like Seth best. No one will raise any eyebrows at any of them but if you wanted to be slightly more quirky then, of the three, choose Tristan.

lljkk · 08/10/2012 18:24

Please no not Arturo. Please say that was a joke.

I have a Tristan. He's a bit of a handful. The only other Tristan we know is the same. Seems like the modern "Daniel" name (I have one of them, too). We also know a Vincent who is a bit of a maniac.

PickledFanjoCat · 08/10/2012 18:27

Can I jump on here. Arthur came to me the other night. I think I love it. But I'm a bit scared to use it.

Also love Seth.

PickledFanjoCat · 08/10/2012 18:28

Is it a bit London. I'm not from London.

freerangelady · 08/10/2012 19:16

Orange; Set is the root of Seth but as Egyptians (ancient) had now written vowels we don't have any accurate evidence as to how it was pronounced therefore there are a number of modern variations.

Rachel - Yes, there is a OT character named Seth as well. It would be interesting to see if there are any historical continuations of the name as the OT names Seth living at a much later date than the myths of Egypt began. The Egyptian god Seth went from being the god of foreigners in the Old Kingdom to the god of bad stuff by the Late period and may have evolved - I'm thinking of the Isis/Mary connection.

Anyway, totally off topic op - sorry.

Def not a fan of Arturo either!

Indith · 08/10/2012 19:47

Pickled I am in the NE so nowhere near London or anywhere trendy but noone has raised any eyebrows to my Arthur, or if they have it is behind my back which would be quite hard to do in this village :)

LynetteScavo · 08/10/2012 19:56

Seth is awful.

RachelHRD · 08/10/2012 21:26

Charming Lynette Hmm

Interesting freerange as the biblical meaning of Seth is 'the appointed one' so somewhat different!!

BoyMeetsWorld · 08/10/2012 21:31

Adore Tristan (it's on my short list)

LynetteScavo · 08/10/2012 21:37

Sarcastic RachelHRD Hmm

The OP asked us what we thought.

I still think Bede is a good name.

I'm still considering Tristan and Arthur.

sonnieboo · 08/10/2012 22:02

Tristan - too sad.

Seth - too lispy.

Arthur - ok but don't like Arty.

How about Quentin, Reuben or Christian? I also like Vincent mentioned above.

LynetteScavo · 08/10/2012 22:20

"Or Roland - you sound like the kind of person who might appreciate the beauty of Roland"

I think Roland is due a revival!

CheshireDing · 09/10/2012 00:32

There is a baby Arthur in DD baby group, I think it's a very cool name.

Loving Walt though - may steal that even though not yet pregnant with number 2 Grin

RachelHRD · 09/10/2012 12:42

Roland reminds me of Grange Hill . I do know a Roald though as in Roald Dahl.

alemci · 09/10/2012 12:54

I'm trying to help you Roland - Janet in Grange Hill. It was like a catchphrase.

don't like the name particularly.

love Tristan especially when the lovely Peter Davison played him in 'all creatures Great and Small

showing my age too.

LynetteScavo · 09/10/2012 16:18

Hahaha! I thought of Grange Hill too. Janet used to say Ro-LAND.

PickledFanjoCat · 09/10/2012 18:35

Or that bloody rat. Rat-fans.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/10/2012 19:14

:) Ro-LAND is not due a revival but Roland deffo is!

catgirl1976 · 20/10/2012 08:30

I have a Tristan - he's not wet or sad, he's a happy boisterous little monkey

Poor things middle name is Boris though Grin

Arthur nice but I know a lot here (south east). My first heartbreak was over a Tristan and he was the nicest most gentle person ever, so that has lovely memories for me. Obv I couldn't use it myself! Seth is on my short list. Bede, not for me. One of DHs school friends was Rowland, I think it is a nice way to spell that and looks better for some reason IMO.

flossy101 · 20/10/2012 10:14

I really love the name Arthur!

My DH vetoed it when I was pregnant but if consider if had another boy.

BexGershon · 20/10/2012 18:00

I LOVE Seth!! I worked with a Tristen and everyone would call and ask for Christian. Good luck x
