Rosie or Ivy-Rose?

I like both, I have always wanted Ivy but have added the rose as it is my OH's grandmother's name and Ivy is my grandmother's name.

Worried as Ivy has suddenly become very trendy (quite unexpectedly for me! I've wanted that name since I was 14!!) and don't want to give a name that is just a fashion phase that will become quickly outdated.

Rosie just seems to be quite a sweet name, but don't think it works with Ivy as a middle name, which I really really want to have in there somewhere.

Opinions?

Ivy Rose Surname would be lovely. I don't like hyphens either, a bit twee.

Like both but prefer Ivy-Rose. Ivy may be becoming more popular but I don't think it's reached Rosie yet.

I really like Ivy-Rose: it's beautiful. I'm not keen on Rosie as I find it too neutral; a bit beige for my tastes.

Don't worry too much about Ivy's climbing popularity. The reasons why you want to include the name outweigh not having it because of the 'it's popular' issue. I also think you'd regret not naming your DD Ivy, Ivy Rose or Ivy-Rose.

I compeltely disagree about hyphenated names being "the single greatest identifying chav symbol", btw.

More, it's the name combination that would connote a 'chav' 'posh' 'trendy' or whatever, name. Example: Lacey-Jai looks (and sounds) 'chavvy' to me, but Ivy-Rose sounds sweet lovely.

You are going to get a lot of people on here saying ridiculous bollocks about being a chav if you have a hyphen. It's snobby and unpleasant to call people chavs.

If you called her Rose with Ivy as the middle name, but used Rosie as a nn, would that work? (Bearing in mind that it is actually rather rare to hear your first and second name spoken together.)

I'm not mad on hyphens but think Ivy is really really pretty on its own. It sounds lovely with Rose as a middle name. I'm neutral on Rosie.

Love Ivy, my DD's middle name after my mum. Great choices for a name, and don't be swayed by others' opinions, these names both obviously have a personal meaning to you.

I really really like Ivy-Rose. Hyphens have been around for ages since I was at school so I wouldn't worry about going out of fashion. Mt dd middle name is Rose (before it got trendy) and I love it. You could do Rose as a middle name without hyphen?

My personal preference is Rosie, but with that combination I would go for Ivy Rose. I wouldn't personally hyphernate it. Even if a name is fairly popular it doesn't mean that your dd will have another one in her class, and I know children with v unusual even for mumsnet names who have ended up in same class with not another one around for miles. For children I think the 'having another one in your class' test is the main benchmark. If there does end up being another Ivy then ask for your dd to be called Ivy Rose rather than Ivy First initial of surname, and just hope Deekeydoo doesn't live too near you!

Yes it is. And yet, you can't police people's thoughts.

There's a fairly widespread school of thought which lumps hyphenated names into the chav camp. It's not nice, it's not clever. Most people aren't proud to think like that. But there you have it, nonetheless.

Definitely Ivy Rose. I LOVE the name Ivy. Would've been DS's name had he been a DD.

People think all sorts of things but some things are best left in a little box in your head!

Don't worry at all about people labelling you chavs. I know a few people who have used hyphens recently as family traditions amongst other things.

I know one grown up lady who is very proud of her hyphen as it's a special name thing they pass down in the family from mother to daughter.

I love Ivy and Rose. Would probably leave out the hyphen tbh. You could still have two middle names if you like. I don't know any little Ivy's here!

I think ivy rose is beautiful, not as keen on Rosie, ALWAYS think of Rosie Webster for some reason.
