Hattie as a standalone name? Or is Emma nicer?

What do you think? If DS was going to be a girl he would have been Harriet, but have gone off it a bit.

Our new choice is Emma but I've just become excited at the prospect of a Hattie (Emma is so lovely but I can't help but feel slightly bored by it)

I agree. Emma is a very pretty name but has become a bit boring.

Hattie? Sorry, but it just makes me think of Hattie Jacques. I prefer Harriet.

Don't know any baby Emma's so it shouldn't be too common. I do like Harriet, though, it's in both our families and one of the names me and DH actually agreed on when choosing our name for DD.

I like Emma. There are a few of them about but more older children and adults.

My older children between them go to school with 1 Emma and 5 or 6 Hatties - but they are probably Henriettas or Harriets rather than Hattie.

Hattie is very now and very Hattie Jacques.

Emma is a bit better, but a bit bland to.

Emma is the sort of name a child can impose their own character upon, rather than it being one of those names that labels the child (or parent) in some way.

Hattie (pref as a NN for one of the longer forms) is good too though.

Hattie is fab. DD1 is Hattie to everyone, although her bc name is Harriet which is normally saved for when we need to tell her off!

I like Hattie, but I'm a bit of a stickler for not using NNs as names. I would name her Harriet, and shorten it to Hattie.

Emma is a lovely name, and underused at the moment. Or how about Emmeline?

Hattie sounds a bit comic to me.

Love love Hattie and would def put Harriet, which I also love, on BC and then she will have more options. I think Hettie is also fab.
Emma is pretty enough but there are so many at my DS's primary school. I also know several adults with the name. It is a bit non imaginative to me, sorry.

So I think I'm going to go Harriet Emma on birth certificate but announce her Hattie Emma. DH really wants Emma do there will be some convincing that needs to go on.

That's if it is a girl! Luckily we are set on a boy's name: Arthur
