Elspeth
Bethan
Charlotte

Elizabeth both a bit safe
Isabel/le
Katharine
Louisa

Basically anything reasonably traditional, but not dull.
Anna, Jayne, Janet, Susan work, but I'd feel DD1 got more thought.

I have the very very common name and DSIS the more interesting one and imEnvy

evamummy · 02/10/2012 11:14

Classic, traditional names that go well with Martha are imo

Florence
Cordelia
Catherine

Isaac
Quentin
Sebastian

flopsy1974 · 02/10/2012 12:55

Really like Matilda. But I'm a little worried about it being too popular also would Martha and Matlida sound a little odd? A friend has suggested Mary for a girl which I like but has the same M and M problem.

I have a Florence & DD2 is due beginning of Jan. Martha, Harriet, Eliza & Elsie are our forerunners so far!

zxcv123 · 02/10/2012 21:52

I wouldn't go for two names beginning with M personally.

It seems that you like traditional but not overused girls' names, so how about:

Clara
Louisa
Eliza
Beatrice
Josephine
Alexandra
Helena

For boys:

Joseph
William
Christopher
Julian

They've already been suggested, but second / third the suggestions for Beatrice and Harriet. They both sound lovely with Martha.

Thankyou for all the help
So far I like
Mary
Rosa
Matilda
Penelope
Beatrice
Harriet (out because DH hates it)
Juliet (DH thinks its silly Hmm )
Madeleine
Annie

Albert
Frederick
Isaac
Jonah
Elijah

DH wants Esther for a girl

for boys he likes names like Andrew and David (Andy and Dave - No thanks!!!)
I think I've got my work cut out

Any opinions on these lists would be welcome Smile

What's silly about Juliet? It's a lovely but also completely "normal" name. Prefer Julia myself, but Juliet is very pretty.

I like your name list - although I think Mary and Matilda are a bit too similar and "matchy", in my opinion. I like Juliet, Beatrice and Harriet best.

I like Frederick as a boys name best (this was what I wanted for ds, but dh didn't like it). The other names are fine (although I wonder whether he would have to put up with jokes about "Prince Alberts" when he hits adolescence?).

Girls:

Ella
Florence
Lucinda

Boys

William

Henry

MoonHare · 04/10/2012 16:10

I know a few little Martha's - lovely name - how about any of these for a sibling:

Boys
Seth
Arthur
Toby
Noah
Rueben
Peter

Girls
Esme
Eliza
Verity
Libby
Polly
Harriet
Ivy
Iris

Good luck with your decision.

zxcv123 · 04/10/2012 22:10

I wouldn't go for Mary & Martha, unless you are very Catholic and don't mind the biblical connection.

amck5700 · 04/10/2012 22:16

Mabel for a girl and Miles for a boy.

besmirchedandbewildered · 04/10/2012 22:20

Flora
Lydia
Romilly
Henrietta (Hettie)
Elodie

justaweeone · 04/10/2012 22:20

Dilly?

cashmere · 05/10/2012 08:48

I know sisters called Daisy and Martha. Could have Margaret on birth certificate and call her Daisy.
How about:-
Tamsin
Eloise
Eleanor
Eliza

I love some of the boy suggestions you've already had.
Would Peter work for your husband?! A bit random I know but quite a nice name.

Arabellasmella · 06/10/2012 21:35

I think Esther does work really well with Martha. Also like Harriet, Susannah and Alice. How about Agnes? I think of Martha as traditional with a bit of a quirk. It's a lovely name. Hope you can find something just right!

NellyBluth · 06/10/2012 21:46

Hmm.. something about Esther and Martha doesn't quite work for me, there's something slightly similar about them? Annie or Penelope sounds better to me. How about Agatha?

I actually think Andrew is ok! I think if you always call your child by a certain name you've got a shouting chance of them keeping that name at school, because they'll always introduce themselves as 'Andrew' - so you might avoid 'Andy' if you don't like it! Elijah and Isaac are lovely though.

Dawndonna · 06/10/2012 21:52

I have a Martha. Don't have another begining with M. When they're older there will be trouble with the post etc.
We liked:
Isabel,
Eliza,
Rosa,
Rhiannon.

cashmere · 07/10/2012 18:43

Nancy might work too.
