Middle name for Lucy/Lucie?

I love the name Lucy. I think its perfect for a little girl and I love what it means. I love that its a traditional English name, and it means bringer of light, and that st Lucia is the patron saint of light and the festival heralds the beginning of christmas in sweden. but I worry that its not substantial enough on its own.i was thinking of doubling it up with another name as a first name (no hyphens, i hate them lol) to give her an option of using a longer, perhaps grown up name as she grows up. Any suggestions?

A friend of mine has a DD called Lucie Valentine as she was born around 14th February, when is your DD due?

delilah88 · 01/10/2012 16:09

What about calling her Lucinda?

FireOverBabylon · 01/10/2012 16:14

May? Ellen?
Lucia Rose?

How long is your surname, so we don't suggest lumbering youe DD with a loooong name which she can't pronounce or spell.

amck5700 · 01/10/2012 16:24

Katerina
Josephine
Eleanora

How about Nicole/Nicola considering it's so close to Christmas?

Ktay · 01/10/2012 19:48

Dd2's middle name is clementine. That's a nice christmassy fruit Grin

(prefer satsumas personally...)

baskingseals · 01/10/2012 20:11

what about Noelle? think it's very pretty but might not be strong enough sounding.

Christina or Christabel maybe? i love Christabel.

airedailleurs · 02/10/2012 10:22

Natalie and Natasha both mean Christ's birthday, or the Saint's Day of Saint Juliana is 21st December...

pinkandyellowbutterfly · 02/10/2012 22:18

Thanks guys, very christmassy suggestions! I have been thinking Lucy Joy or Lucy Grace are both really lovely. Which does everybody prefer?

Lucy Joy is lovely, Joy fits the season too without being too obviously christmassy I think

DessieLou · 03/10/2012 14:35

She could be Lucille/Lucinda with Lucy as nn. I like the suggestion of Lucy Noelle. We're considering Lucy for our dd due 29th Nov, her middle name will be Elizabeth. Just out of interest what spelling are you going for...Lucy or Lucie?

Kveta · 03/10/2012 14:38

Lucie Joy is lovely :)

Psammead · 03/10/2012 14:42

We have a Lucy whose name is Lucia Rowan.

Bumpstart · 03/10/2012 22:43

Lucy is a lovely name, but you may find that when you call her name, 6 kids turn round!

Hypenating would be a good option. I love Lucy-Anna

pinkandyellowbutterfly · 03/10/2012 23:07

Thanks guys! Psamead: Your daughter's name is lovely, do you pronounce it Lu-SEE-a or Lu-chi-a? It has always confused me! bumpstart: i never imagined going for such a well used name for that very reason, but its my favourite and i can't imagine her being having any other name! lThats why i want to put another name with it, to make it more distinctive. Haven't decided on Lucy/Lucie yet I love both, but was thinking would she spend her life spelling it out if i went with the 'cie' spelling?

Bumpstart great taste Smile My dd isn't hyphenated.

Bumpstart · 03/10/2012 23:27

Anxious elephant.... Is she lucyanna?

Or luciana?

AnxiousElephant · 03/10/2012 23:30

Lucy Anna!

pinkandyellowbutterfly · 04/10/2012 00:00

anxious: lovely name

Which spelling do people prefer: Lucie or Lucy? I can't decide!

Psammead · 04/10/2012 02:50

We pronounce it Loo SEE ah. There are several different ways Smile

I like the -ie spelling, but as you said, she'd be spelling it all the time as it is less usual. I think I'd probably stick with -y.

airedailleurs · 04/10/2012 10:31

my friend's daughter is Lucie because she is French, but I do think it's a prettier version and it makes it stand out from the other Lucy's (written down anyway!)

Arabellasmella · 06/10/2012 21:25

One of our sons would have been Lucy Helena had he been a girl. I prefer Lucy to Lucie but am also keen on Lucille and Lucinda. I know a Lucy without a middle name because the parents insisted that nothing nothing goes with it. I think you just need more syllables.
