Those names that have hypens with another name after them are pushed much higher up the chart as are those that have a variety of spellings (some of which due to being used in other countries)

Macey moves zooms from outside the top 100 at 163 to 67 due to all the Macey-Lee and Macey-Leigh variations.

The non-hypenated names and those with few/no variant spellings are pushed lower down the chart. Very interesting.

There were 9,715 Lilly variants just in 2011 compared with 1665 naming their daughter Alice last year.

Thanks for this! Mohammed topping the boys chart is interesting. In the girls, if you add up the Isabelles and Isabellas it comes in at no 2, instead of numbers 4 and 11 respectively. This mirrors my experience, it's all Isabelles, Avas and Lillies near me!

I'm surprised that Grace and Gracie aren't combined - would be closer to number 4.

The list doesn't combine Isabelle/Isabella, Grace/Gracie, Eve/Evie, Ella/Ellie, Rose/Rosie. If those were combined they'd all be even higher than they are (eg Isabelle/Isabella would be second if combined).

I'm surprised by the popularity of Lacey and Macey - never come across a child with either name and thought of them as American really.
