Cordelie?

So I'm pretty hooked on Xanthe Joy, but trying to do a shortlist in case DD2 comes out with a full head of dark hair and Xanthe ("yellow, blonde") doesn't feel right.

I can't have a name that ends in an "a" sound because it sounds wrong with our surname. Hence..... Cordelie? Or not?

I know it's a bit like Coralie, but I don't really like Coralie. I love Cordelia, but the "a" sound means that Cordelie would be better - unless it's horrid?

Cordelie Joy?

I've always liked Gloria. In fact I think was in my original suggestions on the OP's other thread. Smile

Thank you for the feedback. I can see Artemis might get a few Hmms in RL.

Re Joy, I'd like to keep it as a middle name as it's for my grandmother but I'm less keen on it as a first name. I do like Gloria (and actually even like Gloriana Blush but I can't have everyone think I've named DD2 after a barge in this Jubilee year). But there's a problem with names ending in an "a" sound as it is really clunky with our surname.

So: Xanthe, Claudine, Claudette (which I do really like as well) and Fabienne.

My brain hurts....

OP - am I right in thinking Xanthe means "fair haired', and that the reason you're asking for more suggestions is in case your daughter is dark haired? (I know I could go and read your post further up, but I think I'm starting to contract so can't be bothered :D)

If so, may I suggest: Ciara? It means "Dark". Winter is the dark season. Also: Lucy. St Lucy's Day is the 13th of December and is a seasonal festival of light.

Oh dear, sorry: another question.

What about Lucille? Lucille Joy.

(I don't know where Lucille came from; it just popped into my overheated head....)

I am no help, I love Lucille too!

I suppose it might get shortened to Lucy a lot, which is pretty but very popular. That might put me off.

Badgerina! Grin was it you with the power of mumsnet thread this morning? Can't check am on stupid phone.

NotChristmasCarol · 28/09/2012 14:34

Thanks MBL. I thought of that too - the shortening thing, I mean. DD1 has an unusual first name which gets shortened to a v common nn - it's a nice nn, but just everywhere. Much like Lucy.

But I still like Lucille, despite watching I Love Lucy as a child (of the 70s, clearly....)
