Cordelie?

So I'm pretty hooked on Xanthe Joy, but trying to do a shortlist in case DD2 comes out with a full head of dark hair and Xanthe ("yellow, blonde") doesn't feel right.

I can't have a name that ends in an "a" sound because it sounds wrong with our surname. Hence..... Cordelie? Or not?

I know it's a bit like Coralie, but I don't really like Coralie. I love Cordelia, but the "a" sound means that Cordelie would be better - unless it's horrid?

I've always liked Gloria. In fact I think was in my original suggestions on the OP's other thread. Smile

Re Joy, I'd like to keep it as a middle name as it's for my grandmother but I'm less keen on it as a first name. I do like Gloria (and actually even like Gloriana Blush but I can't have everyone think I've named DD2 after a barge in this Jubilee year). But there's a problem with names ending in an "a" sound as it is really clunky with our surname.

So: Xanthe, Claudine, Claudette (which I do really like as well) and Fabienne.

My brain hurts....

OP - am I right in thinking Xanthe means "fair haired', and that the reason you're asking for more suggestions is in case your daughter is dark haired? (I know I could go and read your post further up, but I think I'm starting to contract so can't be bothered :D)

If so, may I suggest: Ciara? It means "Dark". Winter is the dark season. Also: Lucy. St Lucy's Day is the 13th of December and is a seasonal festival of light.

What about Lucille? Lucille Joy.

(I don't know where Lucille came from; it just popped into my overheated head....)

I am no help, I love Lucille too!

I suppose it might get shortened to Lucy a lot, which is pretty but very popular. That might put me off.

Thanks MBL. I thought of that too - the shortening thing, I mean. DD1 has an unusual first name which gets shortened to a v common nn - it's a nice nn, but just everywhere. Much like Lucy.

But I still like Lucille, despite watching I Love Lucy as a child (of the 70s, clearly....)
