Twin girls

Happymum22 · 24/09/2012 23:08

My sister is having twins (they are pretty sure 2 girls) and asked me to help her choose names (her DP sadly died unexpectedly shortly after she got pregnant) unfortunately they had only had a definate boys name.
Her shortlist so far is :

India
Thea
Amelia
Lydia
Matilda
Sophia
Evie
Cordellia
Rosie
Darcey

I love all these names, they are a similar 'style' to my childrens but I'm finding it tricky to put them together with all the -a sounds. It is a family tradition to have two middle names which she would like to continue.

Any help? Thank you

Will post from the right account now I've finally worked out how to log londoner off!

Right, after a long rainy afternoon and playing about with options my sister is fairly set on..

India Thea Amelie and Darcey Matilda (> Idea for second middle name please? shes not keen on eve, maybe rose but hoping to find better> Someone help!?)
With pronounciation of Amelie is it Am-a-lee rather than Am-ill normally?

Anyone help with the second nickname for Darcey?
Also spelling of Darcey- Darcy, Darcey or Darcie ?!

What about putting a middle name between Darcey and Matilda e.g.

Darcey Jane Matilda
Darcey Matilda

Darcey Matilda Skye or Darcey Matilda Elizabeth

haha maybe not Darcey and Elizabeth Grin

jaffacakehips · 28/09/2012 21:43

bloody ipad - doh -

What about the name Abigail? Means 'Father's joy' which would be very sweet.

Not sure if it works, but just throwing it in to confuse matters Wink

StetsonsAreCool · 28/09/2012 21:52

Jaffa - DD is Darcey Elizabeth BlushBlushBlushBlushBlush

We didn't realise until she was about 6 weeks old Shock

OP - I really wanted Amelia for DD's MN, but I realise that throws a spanner in the works for India...

Matilda is on my list of names for next time too.

How about Darcey Matilda Rose?

Actually, I quite like India Thea Abigail (good call jaffa)

So sorry to hear about your sister's husband. I met a girl while I was on Maternity leave whose son was called Andrew after his father who died while she was pg. Devastating, of course, but he bought her so much joy.

StetsonsAreCool · 28/09/2012 21:56

Also, my Darcey has a little friend called India. It gets shortened to Indi quite often. They also have a friend called Emily - would your sister consider that? I always think Darcey and Emily/Emily and Darcey roll off the tongue quite nicely, but I don't know if it's because I've said it sooo many times now!

StetsonsAreCool · 28/09/2012 22:10

Sorry, just reread and saw she's not keen on Rose.

Hmmmm

If you had
India Thea Amelie
with
Darcey Matilda Abigail

would that work? Amelie/Abigail balance the names quite nicely to my ears.

Happymum22 · 28/09/2012 22:14

Happymum has let me on her account as we have been texting all night analysing responses and ideas! Thank you for all your lovely words, not an easy time at all, taking each day as it comes, its bloody hard. but my wonderful sister (happymum) is keeping me busy and just the best support. When I'm feeling more up to it I've had a browse of MN boards and I definately will need to join.

So yes, we have a definate with India Thea Amelie and Darcey Matilda ..help! I'm quite liking Skye but is it a bit qwirky/weird?

Abigail, wow that sounds just what i'm looking for, my only dilema is giving one girl a link to her dad, and not the other. Would it be odd to give them a shared 2nd middle name, both Abigail?

Thanks again, this thread has certainly made it an 'up' day and made me feel very excited for my little girls for the first time in a long time.

PS. like Emily bit its just far too popular. i grew up with a very common name and always envied my sister for being the only one in the school with her name.

Why not give one twin Abigail and one twin Willow as MNs, then both girls's names pay homage to their fathers. Willow is quite quirky too, maybe give it to the one who is not Skye.

StetsonsAreCool · 28/09/2012 22:27

Hello Happy's Sister! Could you have one with Abigail, and one that's a 'feminised' version of her dad's name? Without knowing details, something like Andrew/Andrea for example? Although, in the circumstances I think you'd be totally justified to have them share Abigail.

I'm not that keen on Skye. It's pretty, but a bit 'meh' to me personally. And it's v popular round here (3 Skyes, 1 Emily - you figure it out Confused)

Other names that have been on and off my list since before DD was born are:
Cora
Nell
Lucie
Eloise
Ivy
Heidi
Leila
Georgia

thewhistler · 28/09/2012 22:28

To throw another pebble in, you could do something around Celia and Alice, not in your lovely lists but which are anagrams of each other, for twins.

Henrietta is pretty, with Hetty as nn. As is Henriette.

StetsonsAreCool · 28/09/2012 22:29

Again, totally missed the other post earlier.

So maybe

India Thea Abigail
and
Darcey Matilda Willow

?

StetsonsAreCool · 28/09/2012 22:32

Or
India Abigail Skye
and
Darcey Willow Matilda

Actually, I really like these. Darceywillow sounds like something I'd call DD (much like the Darceydaydream she gets a lot at the moment anyway...)

StetsonsAreCool · 28/09/2012 22:34

And my last suggestions both have an even number of syllables. In case that's an issue for twins later on?

Happymum22 · 28/09/2012 22:43

Thank you! Will think about all these! I think i'm nearly there then i get all your lovely ideas and i'm thrown again!
Will let you all know when I get somewhere definate!

So sorry to hear the sad news about the father. All suggested names are beautiful and love the idea of two middle names.

Darcey is best spelt like this i think. Amelie is pronounced am a lee.

Elfie and Harriet nn Hattie are similar to Alfie and Harry. Ruby for Reuben good too.

StetsonsAreCool · 28/09/2012 22:57

Don't worry, we were deciding DD's name almost until the moment she came out. You'll get there, but in the meantime, you know where to come for ideas Grin

Good luck. And congratulations on your pg. It must be very bittersweet, but I wish you lots of joy and happiness to get you through.

jaffacakehips · 01/10/2012 09:23

HappyMum

FYI: Last year DD were named, Darcy (520) and Darcey (433). Hope this help your sister.

Smile
Practicalpam · 01/10/2012 23:09

Hello
How about India Thea Amelie and Darcey Matilda Cordellia?
I would pronounce Amelie A-mi-lee.
Think all the names are lovely and 2 middle names is great. My DD is Lucy but now wish she had more names.
All the best with your twins. x

forevergreek · 02/10/2012 13:07

Jesse also has father connections

Darcey Jesse Mathilda

forevergreek · 02/10/2012 13:08

Or :
Coral
Ines
Alina
Aria
Ida
Leah/lea

Gwennan · 02/10/2012 13:16

There are some lovely names mentioned here.

From Will, you could use Willa or Willow. I particularly like Willa.

Alfie, Benjamin, Barnaby and Miles are hard to match up with feminine counterparts but there's always Ruby for Reuben and Harriet for Harry. Both would work as lovely middle names.

Consequently, I suggest:

India Ruby Abigail & Darcey Harriet Willow
