Thinking of Darcey for first DD due in 5 weeks?
What do you think? Will people think of Strictly Coming Dancing?!

Love it! Maybe not send her to ballet class...

HolyAutumnGoldBatman · 22/09/2012 00:53

I used to really like it, but now it's so popular it's put me right off. Also all the Darcies I know have siblings with names I really don't like (think Lola, Emmy, Esree, Mimi, Bebe etc) so it's kind of categorised it for me as a 'silly' name.

FrontQuad · 22/09/2012 01:43

There can only be one person with that name and that is, the once, principal ballerina. It looks rather sad and 'try hard' to name a child after someone with an unusual name who is so talented. This applies to any person in the public eye who can be identified, just by their first name. Sienna, Madonna etc.
It's a 'nuffin's too good for my liwwle pwincess' sort of a name, otherwise.

squoosh · 22/09/2012 02:16

I don't think Darcy Bussell, I think 'surname'.

Pudgy2011 · 22/09/2012 03:52

Darcy is my favourite girls' name ever. I don't live in the UK though so it's not particularly popular here for me to be sick of it!

Frikadellen · 22/09/2012 09:50

It is a loveley name imo

susiedaisy · 22/09/2012 09:50

Love it

Pooka · 22/09/2012 09:52

Sounds like arsey.

Flojo1979 · 22/09/2012 09:54

I don't even know the ballet person.
I just think Bridget Jones or pride and prejudice!
So automatically think it should be a boys name not a girls!

wildpoppy · 22/09/2012 09:57

How about Dulcie?

Ham69 · 22/09/2012 11:09

I'm with Pooka.

canistartagainplease · 22/09/2012 11:12

I have a Darcey. It's a marmite name on MN

Maybe we're chavz though, innit, half my fame thought it was vair posh Wink

Oh, and she goes to ballet too. Only because we want a dancer child, not because she actually enjoys it...

StetsonsAreCool · 22/09/2012 11:17

Ahem, Family. Not fame Hmm

Stupid phone.

delphinedownunder · 22/09/2012 13:23

It's more commonly used as a boys name here. My friend has a grandson called Darcy and when mentioned that I had not previously heard of it used for a boy, she got all arsey with me.Don't think she had heard of fore mentioned ballerina.

dairymilk27 · 22/09/2012 19:31

I know a few so getting popular. And makes me think of either Mr or Mark!

TwllBach · 22/09/2012 19:33

I like it, but prefer it without the 'e'

Happymum22 · 22/09/2012 20:15

Love it! Know a very polite and clever little girl named darcey

delilah88 · 22/09/2012 20:30

Is it really getting popular? - I have never met anyone called Darcey! I think it's just getting popular on talkboards where people talk about names.

I think it's great and can imagine your daughter being a bit like Winona Ryder with that name.

wigglesrock · 22/09/2012 20:33

I quite like it, but I know about 5 under 3 years. Popularity of a name doesn't bother me at all (all 3 of mine have very common names) but it might you? I would also spell it Darcy Grin

I know of two darcys under three. I also thought of Jane Austin- not the dancer.

scarlettsmummy2 · 22/09/2012 20:36

Xmas- did you really just use that term! Naughty!
