Me and my DP keep coming back to the name Theodor, it is pronounced tio-dorr in Sweden where we live.

I like the nn Teddy, DP likes the nn Tio, what do you lovely mumsnetters think of having 2 nns?

I think nn can evolve as well over time. I don't think it's always as easy picking one..

It's a lovely name. Btw.

Most my kids have at least 3 NNs. Why would that be a problem?

I wouldn't want to confuse him, my name is Amy, so pretty much a non nicknamable name (made up word) so I'm not used to how nns work.

The problem with the full name is that I can't roll my rs very well so I will sound a bit stupid saying it and also I'm not that keen on the "gift from god" meaning as we are not really religious, I'd like him to have a full name that he could use in a profesional setting as he grows up.

thank you for the advice :)

NNs evolve over time. You can have more than one, or you may find that one of the NNs you plan just doesn't suit a child. Don't think there are any rules about it.

Ds2 had 2 NNs as a baby and toddler that we used much more than his real name, but they've long since fallen by the wayside. None were planned, and only one related to his real name.

Conversely with ds1 we gave him a full name on his birth certificate and planned only to use an abbreviated version for everyday use, but actually he is more often known by the full version than the NN, as it seems to suit him more.

When my boys were little they had all sorts of nick names - some of them based on the motifs on the clothes they were wearing! - None of them related to their actual names :)

Now aged 12 and 11 they go by their names and pretty much nothing else unless we are having a bit of a carry -on! :)

I wonder if it would be a good idea not to use the name theodor, maybe just theo as I can actually say that in Swedish. otherwise I could just use the Anglo version of Theodor but that might anoy him as he grows up.
