Baby names

Worried about Ivy - do you know of any? Alternatives?

Currently pg with dc1. DH and I have had baby names for boy/girl for years. Boys name I am happy with, however we wanted to call a girl Ivy as it was unusual, went with surname and both agreed we loved it.
I was so annoyed when I heard beyonce had used it in her daughters name - this plus the granny names becoming popular it is now aparantly in top 300 and I've seen lots of people suggest it on here. Even saw a birth announcement with Ivy and exact middle name we want on here!
So, do you know of any Ivys being born or toddlers?
Can you give me any alternatives Sad
I still love it I just don't want it to be popular.
Thanks all!

Beyonce allegedly called her daughter Blue Ivy after IV, the Roman numerals for 4, the date on which Beyonce and JayZ met, married etc or some such nonsense. I think that diminuishes the likelihood of Ivy becoming the next Ava, although I'm sure it will climb a bit.

I think it's lovely and you should go for it. Still highly unlikely there would be two in a class.

I think ivy is a gorgeous name. I work with children so meet a lot of babies and children and I have never met one. (west London) I would go for it especially as you have liked it for so long!

Um, sorry to bring bad news! I've had 3 Ivys in the past month (I'm a midwife).

I hadn't met any until this year. This year I have met 5 Ivys with 3 in the last month.

It's nowhere near as popular as Jacob though. Every other boy is Jacob!!

Heeeey, I have a Marley. Hmm She's a lovely, happy girl. I always say if they were all like her we'd have 10 kids. Smile
Anyway, Ivy is darling, and while becoming a bit popular, I doubt it's the next massively overdone name. How about Zoe, Irie, Zadie, Violet, Naya?

How about Fern? (love that way more than Ivy and I do like Ivy)

I quite like it. But it's really unusual these days. I think I heard of one old lady called Ivy years ago. I prefer other 'flower' names such as Iris or Violet.

Hello Winkle!! How are you getting on??

Oh no theDectective, that's annoying. Seems a mixed response though that some people not met any Ivy's.

Thank you so much for the other suggestions but nothing jumps out at me. Sorry I'm so fussy Confused

Don't know any but know someone who is considering it.

I would predict it could rise quite quickly based on the following:

Short flower name
Begins with I (like Isabel/la etc)
Contains a v (like Olivia)
Sounds a bit like Evie so will appeal to hordes of people who like this kind of name but want something that sounds a bit different.

I would say if you use it for your daughter now there are unlikely to be tonnes in her peer group but over the next few years it may rise exponentially (this happened with my daughter's name, there are now loads a few years younger!)

The only Ivy I know is my great Aunt. I suggested it to OH who said no as 'you're not gving birth to a 90 year old'.....Okay then! Confused
We're really strugling to agree on a girls name so I say stick to your guns and call her Ivy. It's very rare to find a name you both love, believe me! Smile

I really like it, don't think I know any, except an adult (50+) at work, but lots of Irises in this area.
There's the conundrum - you want people to like it.. but don't want anyone else to actually use it! I'm just the same.
Go for Ivy.

Thanks all. I'm 99.9% certain we'll go for it now. Will come back in 5 weeks once we know the sex to confirm to you all Grin

Oh winkle :( I was so hopeful that I'd seen you here. I've thought about you too as I think last time you were just off to the docs...I've got everything crossed for you.

My Nanna was Ivy - I would have gone with it if our surname wasn't a tree, sounded like we were listing plants.

How about Iris - I met a little toddler called Iris and she was very cute, really suited her.

I've met one (small baby) and it is a pretty name - Eva or Evie might be possibles? Rose or Rosie?

Have you considered the "Ivy-IVF" connotation?

I love the above suggestion of Iris - the iris is the colour part of our eye, and no two are the same its like a fingerprint. Its a lovely story to tell a little baby Iris.
