A middle name for Padhraig?

DinosaursOnASpaceship · 19/09/2012 22:01

Considering Padhraig (shortened to Paddy for ds4) but can't think of a nice middle name to go with it.

We usually have two middle names - any ideas?

Post :o
Um is it Scottish or Irish?

FreddieMercurysBolero · 19/09/2012 22:37

(Apologies, cannot do fadas on my phone!) Sean, Tomas, Fearghal, Oisin, Gearoid, Micheal? What sort of names do you normally use? Any family names you like?

ProudNeathGirl · 19/09/2012 22:42

Do you want to stick with the Irish theme for the other names?

FairhairedandFrustrated · 19/09/2012 22:44

Pearce, Michael, (pronounced meehawl), seoirse, (Irish for George, means freedom)

combinearvester · 19/09/2012 22:47

I thought Seoirse was a girl's name?

Definitely Joe or Joseph. Or John. Js go well with Ps. Sean is quite nice too.

What letter does your surname begin with, you need to make sure the initials don't mean anything too .

DinosaursOnASpaceship · 19/09/2012 22:50

It's Irish Smile

Michael, Sean and Tomas are already taken but we would like to stick to Irish names and our surname is typically Irish too.

I have three other boys and their father has a huge Irish family and they have used a lot of the more common Irish names.

I like Diarmaid and Darragh but they don't seem to flow with Padhraig.

Surname begins with a B.

Joe/Joesph are out too although I think it goes lovely.

puds11 · 19/09/2012 22:55

Dara?

combinearvester · 19/09/2012 22:58

Ah I was going to say Brendan but you might not want it because of the B surname.

Pearse? Although maybe as the second middle name rather than the first? Colm was on one of my lists I really like it.

Niall is another one I randomly thought of....running out a bit now though although DP is suggesting Jarlath, WTF? Galway saint my arse Grin

KentuckyFriedChildren · 19/09/2012 22:59

I think darragh flows quite well actually :)
I have the postman pat theme in my head its blardy annoying Hmm

DinosaursOnASpaceship · 19/09/2012 23:04

I love Brendan, I wanted it as a first name but ex vetoed it (I don't care if it's his uncle that everyone hates!) and according to ex inlaws all Nialls are spiteful! Niall was exes favourite name for years though. Trouble with big Irish families is that everyone knows everyone and every name has a story behind it.

I like Dara spelt Darragh, very similar to the comedians name with our surname though.

I want Brendan now

I went through a phase of loving Jarlath Grin

According to ex he thinks name meanings are important too - but he obviously didn't check with ds3, his name meaning is awful!

DinosaursOnASpaceship · 19/09/2012 23:05

Oh I just realised that with Darragh and the comedian
Sound alike thing, it doesn't matter as its a middle name not a first name. On the list it goes!

I also like Seamus.

OP posts:
combinearvester · 19/09/2012 23:07

Yes yes I understand we have a Malachy problem in this family Grin

Jarlath is REAL?

Have Brendan as first middle name and Darragh as second? Padhraig and Darragh together doesn't sound quite right imo.

OneHandWavingFree · 19/09/2012 23:10

Padhraig Eoin B---?

OneHandWavingFree · 19/09/2012 23:11

Just saw that Darragh is back on the list - I like that too!

DinosaursOnASpaceship · 19/09/2012 23:14

I like Malachy but it's very very similar to one of my other sons names.

Eion I like but ex wouldn't. I like Emmett too but twilight has ruined that for me.

DinosaursOnASpaceship · 19/09/2012 23:19

We both wanted Seamus for a first name but think ds3 may have a lisp so it wouldn't work plus it would be shortened to Shay which I really don't like. My favourite name ever we cant use as it would be shortened to Dez and is to political with family coming from both sides of the fence (so to speak)

Heydoodledandy · 19/09/2012 23:20

It's a beautiful name in itself, so I think a more simple name would go well - Padhriag John?

FairhairedandFrustrated · 19/09/2012 23:20

Sorcha or saoirse are the girls way:)

I love darragh, Connor, caolan (keelan), killian, Liam,

(big Irish family) :)

chipmonkey · 19/09/2012 23:23

Padhraig Fionnain B.... with a fada over the a, pronounced Fionn-awn

hellymelly · 19/09/2012 23:25

Stephan?

DinosaursOnASpaceship · 19/09/2012 23:26

Killian is on the list (spelt Cillian though) and John we've already used. Liam and Connor are both taken, and Coalan rhymes very closely with a cousins name.

I really appreciate all the suggestions :-)

BigFatLegsInWoolyTIghts · 19/09/2012 23:30
