squoosh · 19/09/2012 11:12

I've just googled and it appears that yes Lily Allen has a much younger sister called Teddy Rose.

wildpoppy · 19/09/2012 11:17

I think that's lovely. I would like a Theodora nicknamed Thora.

mayanna123 · 19/09/2012 14:23

I think Theodora is beautiful!

Teddy is a cute nickname and actually is nicer for a girl than a boy imo (too cutesy for a boy).

mayanna123 · 19/09/2012 14:24

And Teddy makes sense if they pronounce it Teodora.

Psammead · 19/09/2012 15:29

She's half Turkish, his wife. I think.

I like the name. Congratulations to them!

SophySinclair · 19/09/2012 15:32

Much nicer than Theodora. There was a Theodora in the Chalet School books, she was forced to change her name as soon as she arrives by that busybody Jo Maynard. To Ted if I remember correctly. Ted is also awful. . . .

I'm working my way through the series. At 25... Jo is getting on my nerves!

Anonymumous · 19/09/2012 20:15

So annoyed by this! Our surname is Williams, so when choosing our son's name eight years ago we carefully avoided anything remotely like Robbie... and we went for Theodore!!! Cannot BELIEVE that Robbie and his wife picked basically the same name! I just hope that his little one is not in the paper all the time like Harper Beckham, or else I fear that my little boy is going to start being known as Theodora at school fairly soon... Sad

bruffin · 19/09/2012 20:23

I like it and she shares her birthday with DD who was 15 yesterday.

winkle2 · 19/09/2012 21:57

Mark's first daughter is called Willow Rose

SirGOLDBoobs · 19/09/2012 22:00

Theodora is nice... Rose is common but harmless.

Teddy is ridiculous on either gender.

Could be worse Grin

mayanna123 · 19/09/2012 22:21

Wonder if she will be known as Theodora Williams or Teddy Williams?

DancehallDaze · 19/09/2012 22:23

Why do you think Teddy is ridiculous?

SirGOLDBoobs · 19/09/2012 22:24

Because its a cuddly bear. Not a freaking name.

DancehallDaze · 19/09/2012 22:36

But the bears were named after Theodore Roosevelt who was called Teddy.

xmasevebundle · 19/09/2012 23:49

Awful, i guess its better than fox?

Teddy is just stupid? I hate it when they say she will be called teddy why say theodora then?!?!?!?!?!?!!

mayanna123 · 20/09/2012 11:30

Yes, the Teddy bear was named after the son of Roosevelt, just like Mercedes was named after a girl in the Daimler family and the Barbie Doll was named after the daughter's founder name Barbara.

But all three, the Teddy, a Mercedes and a Barbie doll are now generic terms for the items they represent.

Even outside of the UK these are well known - e.g. in Germany ein Teddy is clearly short for Teddy Bear and it would be odd for a child to be named Teddy.

VeritableSmorgasbord · 20/09/2012 11:32

Whoa there
Robbie WIlliams has a wife?
And a baby?
I have been a stranger to the celeb columns too long
I thought he was gay

ponchopink · 20/09/2012 12:24

Please don't say Rose is common! I know I know its over used and gorgeous, very British and I love it!!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 20/09/2012 12:45

I love Rose, but MIL is a Rosemary, which put me off!
Theodora is actually lovely! I really like it, and am adding it to my list! Smile

DancehallDaze · 20/09/2012 13:05

mayanna

The point is that Teddy IS still a name. The fact that a brand or product has been named after it doesn't mean that it's no longer a personal name (and the same goes for Mercedes and Barbie). An earlier poster seemed to be unaware that the name existed before the product.

Jux · 21/09/2012 21:33

So me cousin whose name is Edward, but is called Teddy, has a ridiculous name? The short-form of Teddy has been in existence for centuries. (I have another relative called Theodora, as it happens.)

AKissIsNotAContract · 21/09/2012 21:36

Veritable Grin

SirGOLDBoobs · 21/09/2012 22:14

Yep, Teddy is ridiculous, full stop.

What the hell is wrong with Edward?! Grin
