So, our baby nephew is called Elliot. Our current favourite name, if our bump is a boy, is Elijah. Completely different names, origins and pronunciations, but same first three letters. Would that be too odd in your opinion?

No, not odd at all. As you say, they're very different (and the fact the first three letters are pronounced 'elly' and 'i-lie' make it even less of a problem)

BikeRunSki · 18/09/2012 18:05

No, very different sounding names and v unlikely to have the same nn from those two names.

TudorJess · 18/09/2012 22:17

They're different enough.

Badgerina · 19/09/2012 00:12

I wouldn't do it personally. They're both nice names though. Just a bit... samey.

Moominsarescary · 19/09/2012 01:20

I think it's fine

Sounds fine, different enough.

Nothing like each other, and it wouldn't bother me if they were, to be frank. People worry far too much about that sort of thing these days. Go back a few generations and it was the norm to repeat names in the family.
