Names that are known but not used...

I want something a little different but OH is boring traditional so I thought names in this catagory might suit. Think names like Philippa or Rachel or Sarah. I don't actually like any of these but I rather like Natalie (hate Nat though).
Hopefully you get my drift Confused. Thanks in advance Smile.

DD1 is called Natalie, so I say go with that. She's only one of two in her school. WRT the "Nat" thing, DD knows how much I hate it and although I know her friends call her that at school, they all know as long as I don't hear it, I'm not fussed. She tells people (politely) that she prefers to be called Natalie and they do tend to stick to it. Nobody in our family calls her Nat and they never have done because I insisted she was Natalie from the 20 week scan Grin

YoullLaughAboutItOneDay · 12/09/2012 18:54

I know a Natalie whose occasional nickname is Tally, if that helps. Quite sweet if you want a nickname while she is little.

Girls In my class in 80s: Deborah, Helen, Nicola, Carole, Julie, Jacqui, Tina, Michelle, Louise, Lisa, Joanne, Sarah, Claire, Rosemary, Judith, Gillian

manicinsomniac · 12/09/2012 23:47

Some of these 80s names have stayed in use though. I currently know (under the age of 13) 3 Sarahs, 2 Rachels, 4 Rebeccas, 1 Samantha, 1 Nicola, 2 Chelseas, 2 Stephanies, 1 Natalie, 2 Natashas, 7 Georginas, 3 Catherines, 4 Eleanors, 2 Amys, 1 Kate, 1 Mary, 3 Emmas, 4 Alexes, 2 Mirandas, 1 Anna, 2 Elizabeths, 2 Lucys, 1 Naomi, 1 Philippa, 2 Madeleines, 4 Katies, 1 Zara, 1 Gemma, 1 Sadie.

I don't think of any of those as 'known but not used' at all.

I can't remember my first primary class (1988) very well at all but, from what I can remember, we had 2 Rebeccas, 2 Amys, Laura, Sarah, Nicola, Kerry, Elizabeth, Kimberly, Erin and Lois. Most of those are, I would say, still used. I think you have to either go back a bit or pick names that were trendy then rather than classic.

My list (sorry for the repeats)
Anita, Annalise, Agnes, Annette, Anne, Alma, Avis, Ada, Amanda, Angela, Antonia, Adrienne, Belinda, Bertha, Beryl, Bessie, Cecily, Celia, Claudette, Claire, Caroline, Diane, Deborah, Denise, Donna, Dawn, Delia, Doris, Dorcas, Dinah, Erica, Ethel, Enid, Fiona, Freda, Gertrude, Gloria, Gwedoline, Hilda, Hilary, Irene, Ida, Julie, Jean, Joan, Justine, Judith Judy, Karen, Kimberly, Kelly, Kerry, Kylie, Kirsty, Laura, Linda, Leslie, Marie, Michelle, Monica, Marjorie, Muriel, Maude, Mildred, Nora, Nadine, Paula, Pauline, Priscilla, Rita, Sharon, Stacy, Shelby, Shanice, Tara, Tonya, Tracy, Tiffany, Ursula, Virginia, Vivian, Wendy, Yvonne, Yvette

Andrea - as you're due near St Andrews Day.
