What do we think of the name Adelaide - Addy for short?

I like the city and I like the name. Very pretty!

TudorJess · 11/09/2012 20:44

Too place-namey for me.

showtunesgirl · 11/09/2012 20:45

Makes me think of Guys and Dolls and in a good way. I was in Guys and Dolls at uni playing Miss Adelaide when I met my DH.

ThePieSmuggler · 11/09/2012 20:47

I like it, do you have any links to Australia or do you just like the name?

I think it's lovely.

And as the place was named after the person, I don' think that's an issue either.

lottiegarbanzo · 11/09/2012 20:58

My grandmother, Ada.

Aside from that association it's quite nice. I like Adela too.

Wanttostayinbedallday · 11/09/2012 21:07

I used to live in Australia and went to Adelaide which I loved but I just think it's a beautiful name but wasn't sure if it was too stuffy! Hope it's a girl and then I can use it haha!

Lottie, how do you pronounce Adela? Is it Adele-a, or Adula or what, where's the stress?

Op, don't lie Addy. Is ching the nn standard these days? Wasn't in my time. But if you do want nn, i prefere Delly.

CandiceMariePratt · 11/09/2012 21:18

I love it

lottiegarbanzo · 12/09/2012 08:05

Adela, emphasis on the first A. A-del-a. So quite similar to the emphasis in Adelaide but different from Adele.

Badgerina · 12/09/2012 08:28

God please no, it's 50 shades of awful Confused It just sounds... Wrong. There are so many other, lovely names.

KosherBacon · 12/09/2012 09:33

MagdalenaAlec · 12/09/2012 10:00

Yes! Do it! I am biased though...various nicknames including Della, Del, Delboy (?!)...never had Addy though. And everyone comments on how lovely it is. Smile

WhatYouLookingAt · 12/09/2012 11:23

The place was named for a princess, its a name long before it was a place.

Very popular amongst British and German royalty for centuries.

charlottery · 12/09/2012 11:26

I have an Adelaide, so obviously I think its lovely! She gets called Ad for short but doesn't really have an official nickname
