My son is three and number two is fast approaching, we don't know the sex but if its a girl I am leaning towards Jamima, do you think this is too twee?
We like Isaac for a boy too but we're not religious and wonder is this is too Biblical?
.....what do you think?

I think I would probably spell it Jemima.

HairyPotter · 11/09/2012 16:08

Bit too cute for me I'm afraid. I would also spell it Jemima.

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 11/09/2012 16:09

Jacob is also biblical.
And yes, spell it Jemima

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 11/09/2012 16:12

OK, as long as it's Jemima.

MolotovBomb · 11/09/2012 16:24

Another vote for Jemima rather than Jamima. It goes well with Jacob, though I am a fan of cute names :)

Isaac is lovely for a boy, too.

Good luck!

JaquelineHyde · 11/09/2012 16:27

Jemima is my number one name for mine of it's a girl well either that or Matilda.

sweetkitty · 11/09/2012 16:27

I know a family with a Jacob and an Isaac, love Jacob but then again I have one.

Not a big fan of Jemima (again spell it like that or it will drive you mad correcting it). I'm also not a fan of sibling names starting with the same initial. I prefer Jennifer or Joanna as well.

Sorry that doesn't help.

overmydeadbody · 11/09/2012 16:30

Jacob is not a cutsie or adorable name at all.

If you use Jemima spell it with an e, like everyone else said. It's a nice name.

ProudMamma · 11/09/2012 16:35

Thank you for correcting my spelling!! Am at work so typing super fast!
I know Jacob isn't a cute name- I just wondered what people felt about the alliteration of siblings!! I think I'm definitely leaning towards Jemima.
If its a boy we're less sure of names- maybe Alex - suggested by Big Brother (along with less favorable suggestions like Pasta!

Jacob was the son of Isaac and the father of the 12 tribes of Israel - don't think you can get more Torah/Old Testament than that! Grin

But I think I prefer your son's suggestion of Alex over Isaac - Alex is a great name.

Jemima is lovely for a girl.

lottiegarbanzo · 11/09/2012 16:52

I like Jemima and think it is fine with Jacob. With Isaac it is a very biblical connection, might avoid, as together they do prompt thoughts of the story.

CPtart · 11/09/2012 17:07

I know a family with a Jacob and an Isaac too. Both lovely.
Not keen on Jemima, reminds me of a doll off playschool ( for those old enough to remember!)

TudorJess · 11/09/2012 17:07

I like Isaac, and Alex if short for Alexander. Or how about Daniel, Zachary, Elliot or Luke?

I don't really like Jemima but if you like it then use it. Jemima is also a Biblical name by the way! How about Sophia, Emily, Katherine/Katie?

sweetkitty · 11/09/2012 17:07

Would a lot of people "get" the story though? I had quite a few people ask DSs name then say "oh Twilight" Hmm

Now Jacob and Esau would be a bit twee.

FromHereToNextTuesday · 11/09/2012 17:22

To be honest, I do like Pasta Smile

necoma · 11/09/2012 18:25

Very cute!

Badgerina · 11/09/2012 18:55

Tuesday you should deffo have a baby called Pasta Grin

SilveryMoon · 11/09/2012 19:01

Ds1 is called Jacob. I wanted to call ds2 Isaac but dp thought it would be too much.
I also really like Joseph, but again he thought too much. (we aren't religious either)
In the end we settled for Luke, so have 1 old and 1 new testament.

If I were to have a girl, I love the name Gretchen but will want to saty with the biblical theme so will probably be Rachel or Bethany

Ham69 · 11/09/2012 20:43

Neither too cutsie or adorable. I think they're both lovely names and go well together. Definitely Jemima with an E.

Badgerina · 12/09/2012 08:33

Reminds me of the two kids from Chitty, Chitty Bang Bang. They were Jeremy and Jemimah and had awfully naice, RP accents and were puke-tastically twee.

glendathegoodwitch · 12/09/2012 09:15

I love Jemima and wanted this dd to be called that but OH vetoed because of playskool rag doll :( I have an Isaac and we are not at all religious and it suits him perfectly!! Jacob is lovely as are other "biblical" names like Noah and Saul. Alliteration is ok I think as long as it doesnt continue with every child lol but each to their own!!! good luck with No 2 x

itsjustmeanon · 12/09/2012 10:34

Please smell it Jemima. I think they are a fine combination.
