Rose for a first name. Is it too popular?

Love this name. But would the fact that it is overdone as a middle name ruin it ?

I know it is popular as a middle name but I dont know any Rose's at all (though I do know one Rosa).
It is a beautiful name; if you like it, go for it!

Same here. All the little girls I know seem to have May or Rose as a middle name. But I don't know any with it as a first name Smile

I don't know any either. I have met a Rosie. She would be about twelve now.

I love the name Rose. We are considering it for this Dc if it's a girl but will probably use Roisin as a full name and Rose for short.

The only thing that puts me off is someone told me that the children and babies that don't survive are said to be going to the Rosie ward when they have passed away in our local hospital and although it's meant as a sweet thing for the staff to say its tainted the name with sadness a little for me.

I love it and have rarely heard it as a first name. It's completely timeless.

GoldenPrimrose123 · 07/09/2012 08:59

I think it's a lovely name. I like Rosie and Rosa too.

iseenodust · 07/09/2012 11:23

Lovely. Don't know any girls with it as first or middle name.

MrsJohnDeere · 07/09/2012 11:25

I don't know any girls with Rose as a first name. Hugely popular as a middle name, but so what?

YouOldSlag · 07/09/2012 11:25

It's beautiful and classic and will suit your daughter throughout all stages of life

Mylittlepuds · 07/09/2012 11:26

Love it! Never thought of it as a first name!

mrstowers · 07/09/2012 11:46

It's very over used as a middle name however I don't know any with Rose as a first name although Rosie as a first name is becoming very popular.

tigrou · 07/09/2012 12:29

My dd keeps telling me I should have called her Rose - her favourite name ever

Demelzajane · 07/09/2012 12:34

Love the name Rose its No. 1 on our girls list. None that we know of around here I believe as others have said its an overused middle name and a very underrated and underused first name.

tara0202 · 07/09/2012 12:35

I love the name Rose. The only reason I didn;t call DD Rose was that I really don't like Rosie. I don't know any Roses (actually I don't know any with Rose as a middle name either - lots of May's though).

randomimposter · 07/09/2012 13:16

Lovely name as is Rosa and Rosanna and Rosamund.

flopsy1974 · 08/09/2012 08:53

Thanks for the opinions so far Smile

Love Rose. Simple, classic name.

Claryrocks · 17/09/2012 19:35

Love it. I have two children. For a girl I loved the name Isabelle but didn't pick it because I felt it was too popular and people on mumsnet all said there were lots about. My little girl (Imogen) is now 4 and has just started school. In all the baby groups we have been to, clubs we've attended and now school - we met only one Isabelle and she was 2 years younger and in a baby club with my son!! So the lesson is that if you truly love a name - use it! I adore the name Imogen and couldn't see my daughter as anything else but to not pick a name cos you think it's too popular is not a good idea as you may be disappointed when you don't come across another Rose. I think it's a beautiful name.

I think it's a great name as long and I like Rosie too. I did meet a Rosie at a festival this year. She said that no one is called Rosie until you get to Somerset and there no one is called anything else!
