hi,
Baby due in jan and panicing about names already- believe me it will take that long to agree with DH!
I really love traditional names old man names my fave being Arthur but other half likes modern american names like Beau and Riley.
We are really trying to come up with a good comprimise at the minute we've got Theodore, Emerson or Carson.
What do you think? and have you got any idea's (we are trying to avoid top 50 if at all possible although i do know Theo is getting more and more popular)
Any help/advice will be welcome
:)

I love Theo. I would have loved it for DS but unfortunately BIL had a dog called Theo! Emerson and Carson sound more like surnames to me. I also like Arthur but Theo would definately be my first choice.

Theo has become quite trendy around here - perhaps due the footballer Theo Walcot. I fear it will date more than a more classic timeless name.

I like Arthur and Carson very much.

How about
Quentin
Clement
Victor
Stanley

Thanks both, i really love Arthur but DH has vetoed as it reminds him of arthur fowler- no really.
Will suggest Stanley though i do like it

Madeup One of the most popular boys name going - Oliver. Grin

survivingsummer · 06/09/2012 16:27

I like Theo - by far the best of your other suggestions imo. I don't think it matters if getting more popular as long as you like it Smile

Stanley is a great name - I love 'old man' names too!

Also on an American theme:
Gilbert
Atticus

fanjodisfunction · 06/09/2012 16:30

I once knew a guy called Anderson. Which really worked, similar to Emerson.

How about

Sebastian
Mason
Mitchell
Ewan
Frank/franklin

fanjodisfunction · 06/09/2012 16:31

Or Sidney? (Was my great grandfathers name)

jaffacakehips · 06/09/2012 16:36

What about Greyson / Grayson

Jonathan : Jon, Jonny, Jonnie or Jorty.
Felix,
Jasper,
Caspian,
Sidney is that the right spelling for a boy

jaffacakehips · 06/09/2012 16:42

Peter
Christopher: Chris, Kit
Harrison, think this is becoming popular.
Jenson
Edward: Ed, Eddie, Teddy, Ted please don't use Ned Smile
Hugh
Forbes
Benjamin
Neil

Stuck now! Grin

Sorry sitting on the bus and names keep popping into my head at random! Blush

Like Theo the best out of those mentioned.

Arthur is ok - I know of one whose brothers are Frank and George.

Also thought of:
William / Wilfred / Wilbur / Wilson
Jack / Jackson / Jamieson
Tate
Charles / Charlie / Charleston
Benedict / Benjamin / Barnaby / Barnabus / Barney
Albert / Alfred / Albie / Alfie / Archie
