Boys name with either Chinese/dragon or Christmas inspiration?

DH and I are struggling to agree on a boys name. There are a couple of potential areas we could look to for inspiration...

  • Baby is due just before Christmas - so Christmas/winter themed name could be appropriate.
  • Also, I'm from Chinese background (DH English, well Manx to be precise) and baby will be born in the year of the dragon - so a name meaning "dragon" or signifying strength could also work.
  • the other place we have been looking for inspiration is the Olympics Torch. Having said that I expect there will be loads of Bradley's born this year, so don't want to go its anything too obvious.

I'd like something strong, but not boring and equally not too maverick. Any suggestions? Smile

Viserion, Rhaegal or Drogon?

amck5700 · 06/09/2012 09:22

Natal is connected to Christmas so you could maybe have a Nathan/Nathaniel?

Nathaniel Drake?

Magnus - means great, and latin always seems appropriate for dragons...

Manx isn't English, it it Celtic, from the same branch as Irish and Scottish Gaelic. Nollaig (prn. Nollig or Nullig) is Irish for Christmas, and is a popular unisex name - the Manx word is 'Nollick', so similar.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

I have seen Drake suggested on another website, which works on 2 levels. It means dragon, but also male duck so there is a water connection. However, as you have pointed out amck5700 it does have Harry Potter baddy connotations, which I don't really like.

I like the idea of looking to people born in other water dragon years, so will check out your link Twonker.

A lot of my friends have children, so also trying to avoid names that are already "taken". Unfortunately that rule out Tom/Thomas or George, which are both nice names.

Noel rhymes with out surname, so would be a comedy name.

Anyway, still some leads here, so will check out the links. Anks everyone - really appreciate your input! Smile
