Conor or Ardan?

DH and I are expecting DC1. We are not going to find out whether the baby is team blue or team pink so we need to come up witha few name options for both. Our girls name was really easy.....but we are struggling with the boys name.

At the moment we are toying with Conor or Ardan. DH loves Conor but I like slightly unusual names and wonder if it is a bit common and recall reading something about teachers associating it with naughty children.

Thoughts?

Conor's nice, although I'm not too fond of Arden. What about Ciaran or Aidan?

Themumsnot · 04/09/2012 10:33

What about Cian?

The three Connor/Conors (ages 16, 15 and 10) I know are all lovely boys and not at all "naughty boys" Although I know three, they are well scattered- I have an extremely large family and have 2 boys of my own who invariably have friends who are boys!

I've never really heard of Ardan - not sure if I like it to be honest.

I have a Craig and a Ciar rather than Ciaran and there is also Keir which is pronounced the same.

Also would like to say that speaking as a teacher I do not judge children on their names.

My god, don't call a boy Ardan

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 04/09/2012 10:39

Ardan sounds a bit rude Blush

His friends will be walking around all day with an Ardan

SquealyB · 04/09/2012 10:46

Oh my god we not not even thought about that Blush. I thought we were good at the playground nickname game but clearly we need to work harder! I liked the name due to the Irish mythology behind it and the fact that it was a little bit unusual.

I like Cian too.....we already have a Ciaran in the family (darn it) and not keen on Aidan.

I knew a fair number of Conors growing up in Dublin but don't know many here in London. On a positive note all the Conors I know were very good looking which cannot be a bad thing Grin.

Maybe Ardal instead?

SquealyB · 04/09/2012 11:21

Ardal reminds me too much of Ardal O'Hanlan aka Father Doogle from Father Ted but otherwise I think it is a nice name.

Nobody in England will pronounce Ardan properly though, it will be said ar-dan instead of ar-dawn.
It's a very ancient name.

SquealyB · 04/09/2012 11:35

whatyoulookingat that is definitely another issue with Ardan. That is why Oisín (ush-enn) is out the question too as it travels badly and the poor child would be known as Oisin (Os-in) and be doomed to a life of spelling his name and forgotton fathas.
