I really like this name and want to use it for dc3. My only worry is it's too overused - although I haven't heard it round here, (only Eva and Ava). Will I regret this or shall I just go with it anyway?

I really like the name eve, have heard one or two but heard alot evie Smile

JambalayaCodfishPie · 03/09/2012 09:50

I think you're right in that Eva and Ava are common, but the only Eve I know is 20. And lovely. Grin

Its a really pretty name OP.

NotGeoffVader · 03/09/2012 09:56

I think it's a pretty name. Reminded me that I had 'Lilith' as a potential middle name for DD when we were trying to decide.

Eve · 03/09/2012 10:02

Well, I approve.

Badgerina · 03/09/2012 11:22

It's become a bit "meh" to my ears TBH.

kerala · 03/09/2012 18:27

Avoid. Its this generations Sarah. In DDs class one third of the girls are called a variant of Eve. Two of my good friends are mothers of some of these Eves and both regret their choice.

xmasevebundle · 03/09/2012 18:28

Its lovely, i dont evie or eva or ava all 3 are very bland. Eve i never heard, it would be perfect if she was born christmas eve or new years eve. Either way its lovelyGrin

TudorJess · 03/09/2012 18:33

It's pretty but Eve/Eva/Eva/Evie/Ava names are very popular. And Eve/Eva/Evie are often all known as Evie. Lovely name but be aware of the popularity.

Foshizzle · 03/09/2012 18:34

Go for it. It's the first name ever - trumps most others for that reason alone IMO Grin.

kerala · 03/09/2012 18:35

If popularity doesnt bother you go for it but it would bug me having a popular name myself always being tall Eve, Eve with glasses, Eve M etc.

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 03/09/2012 18:36

My DD is the only Eve in her school, and was in her previous school.

I love it, of course Grin

TheLittleFriend · 03/09/2012 19:12

My dd is the only Eve I know. We know several Evie/Eva/Ava's, but my dd is only called Eve by us. The Best Name!

kerala · 03/09/2012 19:43

Maybe fine as long as you not in the South West here if you shout Eve in the playground you will get a third of the girls running towards you...

EauRouge · 03/09/2012 19:47

I've always liked Eve but my surname begins with a V so it would sound like we'd just named her Ee.

CaringMum28 · 03/09/2012 20:42

OMG it's so common. Some round here have even the same surname initial.. Bleugh. Can't move in a playground for Evie/ Eve's here and Layla/ lyla and Mia/mayas

Stellan · 03/09/2012 20:44

Eve is lovely but there are so many popular names that sound like it!

Even if your daughter is the only one in her class named Eve, she will likely still blend in amongst the girls named:
Evie
Eva
Evelyn
Evangeline
Evelina
Evangelina
Aoife
Efa
Niamh
Effie
Ava
Avery
Ada

StealthPolarBear · 03/09/2012 20:44

love it, couldn't use it for DD because of family connections but it would have been high on the list

LivingThings · 03/09/2012 22:09

I am a mid forties with a name that has always been shortened to Eve. I grew up being the only one around - now they are everywhere!! Doesn't matter which variant you end up calling her eventually she will be jst another Eve.

Catsmamma · 03/09/2012 22:16

I have an Eve.

I only know of two others irl, one i used to work with, and the daughter (she is about 9 or 10) of an internet friend.

But I do think it has become very popular in the last couple of years, along with the variants Ava, Eva, Evie.

If I had heard of it before dd was eight months old I'd have gone for Aoife, the irish version and so so pretty.

DaisyD0 · 04/09/2012 21:41

Thanks for all your comments - you have all voiced the concerns we have had really..... So now it's whether to go with it simply because I like it, or go back to the drawing board.

Dh has suggested either Elsa/Elsie or Edith/Edie so any comments upon either of these would be welcomed!

baskingseals · 04/09/2012 22:16

I love Elsa, a friend suggested it for dd, and i wish now that i had chosen it.
such a pretty name, unusual and simple.

sonnieboo · 04/09/2012 22:24

There are SO many Evies/Eves/Avas around here - it is definately the Sarah of the 2010s.

Elsa is nice. Edith sounds so hard and Edie sounds like a boys name (Ed).
