LOVE the name Juliet hate what it can be shortened too. DC2 due shortly and just cannot decide on a girls name I love. Anyone with a Juliet out there that does not have it shortened or would I be fighting a losing battle?

I do know a Julie who is shortened to jools but it suits her ironically! But I agree it is not a name I would ever choose - however saying that my name is one you can shorten and I hate all variations of it and no one ever shortens it (or if they presume to do so they don't do again!)

I knew a Julia-Anne who became "Fanny" so there is no guarentee of any nickname!!

I agree you cannot dictate what nickname (if any) a child will choose.

I chose a name for dd which I imagined wouldn't easily lend itself to a nickname, but dd's nickname has no relation to her given name. You can never tell.

I think in the end it will be the decision of the child as she gets older if her name is shortened.

And that's why I refuse to shorten my daughter's name and don't allow others to. My middle daughter has added letters to her name - she's 3 and actually believes the longer version is her name Confused - so because she tells us that is her name it's what we call her.
