You've not seen/read Marley and Me then?

LaurieFairyCake · 28/08/2012 13:58

No, it sounds like a dog, Bob, or Jacob.

is that better than old lady Wink?

BunnyLebowski · 28/08/2012 13:58

No. It sounds like a deceased Rastafarian singer.

Or a dog.

savoycabbage · 28/08/2012 13:59

No, just dogs and Bob Marley.

EarnestDullard · 28/08/2012 13:59

I know a little girl called Marley (although not sure how they spell it), I thought it was cute and unusual when I first heard it. Old American lady never even crossed my mind :)

Badgerina · 28/08/2012 14:41

Do you really like reggae?

CanoeSlalom · 28/08/2012 15:57

Bob or dog.

Marnie, Martha, Miranda, Miriam, Melissa, Lucy, Juliet?

MalkieFraser · 28/08/2012 19:40

Beautiful, sweet and unusual Smile

scottishmummy · 28/08/2012 20:31

doggie or reggae
not sweet at all
bitty try too hard

manicinsomniac · 28/08/2012 21:01

American, yes.
Old lady - I don't think so??

I think it's quite nice. The only time I've come across it in the UK was in Waterloo Road and that was on a boy. But in the US it's definitely a normal girl's name.

Gugglebum · 28/08/2012 21:14

I have one, age 3. She is neither a Reggae artist, nor a dog. Grin Sounds more like Molly when she says her name, but we've gotten far more enthusiastically positive responses to her name than negative.

rezzle · 28/08/2012 21:26

Absolutely love it, would use it in a heartbeat if I didn't already have a DS called Harley!

attheendoftheday · 28/08/2012 23:13

I think it's quite nice sounding but I associate it with the ghost from A Christmas Carol.

ATAJ3 · 29/08/2012 01:06

Our cat is called Marley. Sweet, gentle and kindSmile

mummabug · 29/08/2012 11:56

I love the name Marley for a girl. I think a lot of people, when they hear it for the first time will think famous Labrador, or the famous Bob. BUT that will very quickly be forgotten, it would be your little girls name and it's lovely. Soft, uncommon and lovely.

debdee · 29/08/2012 22:04

It's a beautiful name, was on our list when pg with DD. It might have associations with book/film characters but people who know a child with a name like that quickly get over the associations & it just becomes the childs name & who they are :).

exoticfruits · 29/08/2012 22:12

Sounds lovely for a dog.

Welshguy · 31/08/2012 21:46

Dogs in truly dreadful films. Over-rated singers. Plastic floor tiles. Nice enough name, but lousy associations. Sorry!

mummabug · 31/08/2012 22:43

Your daughter would become the association of Marley to people that know her.

That is what I don't get, if the name sounds nice and it is the name of a nice little girl you know, you're not going to be thinking about a film made several years ago etc every time her name is mentioned.

rezzle · 31/08/2012 23:30

As you say Welshguy, Marley & Me was not exactly an Oscar worthy film so when the OP's daughter is at school no one will have even heard of the film!

UnnamedFemaleProtagonist · 31/08/2012 23:31

Nah. Chav boys name.

CharlieCoCo · 01/09/2012 23:08

I have always linked it to the dog (which was very much like my dog so very sad), but have recently met a 'human marley' which was short for Amalia Rose (pronounced a-mar-leah) which is very pretty.

MerryCosIWonaGold · 01/09/2012 23:09

I know a Marley who's a boy. And a Barley who's a girl.

Keepthechangeyoufilthyanimal · 01/09/2012 23:11

Sorry, no:
bob Marley
Marley and me
Jacob Marley

3 not very good options!
