How frumpy is Margaret?

My father is English so all our children have an English middle name. I am thinking of Margaret for DD2 but I am afraid it is too old-ladyish. It ticks all the right boxes (DS is William, DD1 is Eleanor, so I wanted to keep the "royal" theme, and it is loosely related to a gemstone), but I don't love it. Please give me your honest opinions!

I don't like Maggie but I love Margaret. I see it as a red name.

DD1 had a 'Margret' of Swiss origin in her class. The quirkiness of the spelling was quite nice, I thought.

Caroline is another royal name..

I love the name Margaret and Peggy as nn is soooo cute.

cece · 29/08/2012 23:53

Oh and I really like Anne too (royal name)

I love Margot as a nn. There is a little girl at school called Margot, I think it's a fabulous name Smile

If you want something very English and with royal connection then how about Jane? She wasn't crowned but she came quite close!

No.. Sorry doesn't do it for me

winkle2 · 30/08/2012 22:15

It's an old lady name

I absolutely adore it. Maggie is a fabulous nickname as is Meg.

Margaret is my middle name and everyone I've ever told has laughed at it.

I like it - it sounds quite posh that it is uncommon as a child's name. BUT, I hate the nickname "Peggy" with a vengeance!
