Like it? Or is it awful? Is it pronounced Marsha or Mar-cee-a? Hmm...

I like it (it's on my girls list) and would pronounce it Marsha, probably depends on the region, I'm in staffs.

Dogsmom · 27/08/2012 19:49

Hubby just said he'd say Mar-cee-a so ignore my regional theory, lol

Ihatepeas · 27/08/2012 19:54

Looked after a Marcia once she was mar-cee-a. I really like it. She was called Marcie as a nn which is also lovely.

Colyngbourne · 27/08/2012 19:56

I have known both a Marsha-Marcia and a Mar-cee-a-Marcia, and personally prefer the latter.

Unlurked · 27/08/2012 19:59

I know a Marcia pronounced mar-see-a. I like it although it makes me think of a cartoon mouse Hmm possibly from a film I saw as a child! But you didn't really need to know that last bit.

Clueless79 · 27/08/2012 20:08

Ooh I'm pleasantly surprised at these responses - it just floated through my mind on a whim earlier and I thought I liked it but expected to be told it's awful! I have to admit I prefer the Marsha pronunciation but is that too Brady? Or has that association passed now? Am liking Marcie Smile

I would say Mar-ce-a, I'm much not a fan, it feels very bored american housewife - not sure if its just cos her name is Marcia, but Marcia Cross' character Bree in Desperate Housewives is what I think of. Marcie is pretty for a little girl but it is not my taste. Mar-ce-a is much better than Marsh-a.

Personally, I'd go for something more like Cecelia, Marianne, Maria or something if you like the 'shape' of the name.

One of my best friends is called Marcia ( Mar Cee A) she is one of the best , most kind, gentle people I know! :) She is 33.

I know a lovely Marcia

Great name, and Marcie is an adorable nickname for a toddler!

CanoeSlalom · 28/08/2012 08:29

I like it. I'd pronounce it Mar-see-a.

If you like it pronounced Marsha why not spell it Marsha too?

Puremince · 28/08/2012 08:39

I know one in her 40s - she's Mar-see-a.

worldcitizen · 28/08/2012 08:42

I know loads of Marcia's in the U.S. and Mexico!!!!!

They all pronounce it Marsha, but when among Spanish speaking folks then Mar-cee-a.

AlexanderSkarsgardOhYes · 28/08/2012 19:53

I would pronounce Marcia 'Mar-cee-a' and call my daughter Marsha if that's how I wanted her name pronounced.

Clueless79 · 29/08/2012 19:50

Hmm I quite like Marsha but for some reason I have this feeling that it's a name lots of people wouldn't be keen on and although it's probably daft to be at all influenced by others' opinions I'm only guessing at, I'd want my child to have a 'likeable' name. Back to the drawing board eh? Need to find the name that just feels right all round.

Marina, Melissa, Martha?

lizbee156 · 29/08/2012 20:06

I know a Marcia and she's lovely, I love the name, it would have been top of my list if I'd had another DD.

ExitStencilist · 29/08/2012 21:06

Marsha. But its a 45 year old american, not a baby.

MimsyBorogroves · 29/08/2012 21:09

My old English teacher was Marcia (see-a)

She was lovely.

Stellan · 29/08/2012 21:11

I have a second cousin, Marcia, whose name is pronounced Mar see uh.

Clueless79 · 29/08/2012 21:18

I think Martha is lovely. It's becoming quite popular at the moment I think?
