Any thoughts, have an Iona and an Alex(ander) - wondering if just too popular, although we only know one who is 5. How many do you know?

I love it and am totally biased! However I teach 400 girls a week and only teach one other Lucy apart from dd. so in Sussex not too popular.

Gooseysgirl · 27/08/2012 15:47

DD's name Smile We spell it Lucie

AndieMatrix · 27/08/2012 15:50

I only know grown up Lucys and they're lovely.
It's a beautiful name. Won't clash with your other DCs names (also lovely btw) and won't date or age badly. Just hate it being shortened to Luce. Hmm

Love it. Also love Lucienne (Luci).

I know one under five and lots in their 30s.

mnistooaddictive · 27/08/2012 18:36

I am a Lucy and I hate it. Twee and uninspiring. Girly and just Yuk. Luci and Lucie are worse. I may be biased though. ( I am not entitled or unpleasant!) Wink

Arwhen · 27/08/2012 18:41

I know half a dozen (age 0-4 years), and then probably another half dozen grown up ones. Definitely very very popular around here (Home Counties) and although I think it's a pretty name, that does make it feel a bit bland (just because so many are called Lucy).

Pooka · 27/08/2012 18:44

Dd (age9) is the only Lucy in her primary school (450 pupils).

I don't know of any others. Which surprises me, because I thought it was much more popular. Everyone (it seems) called Olivia or Jessica round these parts.

Pooka · 27/08/2012 18:45

Dd isn't entitled or unpleasant.

Yet.

Am working on it. Wink

Whatevertheweather · 27/08/2012 18:48

I'm a Lucy and i've always liked it Smile Think it is becoming popular again though - i know about 5 under 5's with it - the last 2 baby girls born I know of are named Lucy.

Ephiny · 27/08/2012 18:51

It's not my favourite name personally (mostly because I'm not keen on 'y' endings and it feels just a little too 'ordinary') but it's a good classic name that should never go out of fashion or feel dated, and it has a lovely meaning.

I only know one in real life, in her mid-20s.

youonlysingwhenyourewinning · 27/08/2012 18:54

Lucy is beautiful!

The only Lucy's I know are beautiful too!

HalfSpamHalfBrisket · 27/08/2012 18:57

Lovely, also love Lucia (Loo-chee-a).

TerracottaPie · 27/08/2012 19:00

They were lots when I was at school and so I think I put it as being a name belonging back then. It makes me think of green snot hovering at a nostril edge however (girl at primary school with the name always had a green nose)! Sorry Grin

Forgetting the above it's nice enough I suppose.

I don't usually like alternative spellings but Lucie looks nicer to my eyes for some reason.

mnistooaddictive · 27/08/2012 19:09

I forgot the other reason I don't like it. Everywhere we go animal related always has a Lucy. Zoos, farms, etc all have a Lucy. Blots of digs named Lucy too. It drives me mad! DH thinks it is hilarious.

littlepie · 27/08/2012 21:00

DH wanted Lucy for DD2. He picked DD1 name so I sulkily said no as I wanted to pick the name. Sometimes I wish he hadn't gone on about it so much so I had named DD2 Lucy. I love it. Timeless and classic.

Zavi · 27/08/2012 21:26

I don't like the name Lucy at all. I think it sounds really drippy, wishy-washy, uninspiring and weak. For some reason I also associate the name with the colour pink! My friend called her daughter Lucy and my first thought was "how boring".

flowers123 · 27/08/2012 21:31

Love the name it's classy and pretty x

Puremince · 27/08/2012 23:36

We have an Alexander (Alex) and a Lucy. We wanted a fairly simple classic name for Lucy to balance out an unusual family middle name. I love the meaning - "light." I've always thought of it as quite a strong name. I liked the Anne of Green Gables books, and they were written by Lucy Montgomery. Lucy Stone was a suffragette. Lucy Mackenzie was a feminist cartoonist, back in my Spare Rib reading days.

mnistooaddictive is right, though - lots of dogs called Lucy! Plus Vietnamese pot bellied pigs, for some reason.

Iona, Alex and Lucy sounds perfect to me.

Arabellasmella · 28/08/2012 14:27

it's a lovely name and it always will be

fairimum · 28/08/2012 18:59

Thank you for all the opinions :) much appreciated!

Lovely.

daisydoodoo · 28/08/2012 20:06

Lovely name although am biased as my 6yr old dd is Lucy. I only know if her and one other locally (Berkshire)

LucieDee1 · 28/08/2012 20:11

Well since its mine name...haha! I was one of 3 Lucy's in my class at school but not crossed paths with too many as an adult, must have been where I grew up. I was however the only one spelt Lucie

Grannylipstick · 28/08/2012 22:43

I have a Lucy who is 27. The name will never date
