The Name Test!

This has probably been done before, but a friend just introduced me to it and it makes sense so thought I'd share...
To test a potential name for suitability, try saying it in the following ways:

  1. Shouted across the park/supermarket/playground when they're a toddler "X come here!"
  2. When they're a teenager "I love you X" said by you or boyfriend/girlfriend
  3. As an adult in the workplace "Congratulations on your promotion X"
  4. Said like the Queen
  5. Said in a cockney accent

If it sounds right in all 5 ways, it's a good name for you!!!

  1. Doctor X Y

You're forgetting the grand-high poobah of Mumsnet tests:

Say it with the prefix: The Hon. Mr Justice Firstname Lastname Grin

Apparently our children's names have more bearing on their future career than their social background or whether they attend public school.

Grin Badgerina! And what a scary thought...

Do you think Margaret Hilda Thatcher might not have been PM if her parents had put the Hilda first?

  1. Make sure you check it written down.....Do the initials spell a word etc.
BikeMedalsRunningMedals · 22/08/2012 07:20

Pah!

Do you like it?

exoticfruits · 22/08/2012 07:28

I think you ought to add the prime minister test or the top judge test.
What will they get called in the playground is another.

exoticfruits · 22/08/2012 07:29

Will they have to spell it for life because you decided the normal spelling was too boring is another.

sashh · 22/08/2012 08:52

Not just a Cockny accent, the accent of where you live.

RillaBlythe · 22/08/2012 08:52

Although you have to spell out lots of names - like A-n-n-a, yes, not Emma, not Hannah, not Anne...

TimeForMyOwnDSorDD · 22/08/2012 09:14

Excellent, I will keep this in mind!

Badgerina · 22/08/2012 10:43

I should point out that my 6 in the morning sarcasm may have been lost in here
somewhere Grin

Names do NOT have more bearing on a child's future than their social and educational background. Only one woman sits in the supreme court, and all but one went to Oxbridge.

Basically it doesn't matter if you pick a name that would sounds great as a high court judge. Unless he's a HE, is white, goes to public school and then on to Oxbridge, he'll never be one in any case.
