Hi all do you think this a more of a boys name or girls?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
manicinsomniac · 17/08/2012 19:12

I think it's pretty much unisex

GobblersKnob · 17/08/2012 19:12

I went to school with a boy called Emerson, he was quite the charmer Grin I had completely forgotten him until now.

MrsJohnDeere · 17/08/2012 19:18

Boys name. Not keen.

NotWhatYouThink · 17/08/2012 19:20

Definitely boy imho.

AlexanderSkarsgardOhYes · 17/08/2012 19:24

Well, last year there were 34 boys named Emerson and no girls.

In 2010 there were three baby girls called Emerson and 22 boys.

So though it is a unisex name, and the only person I've ever known of called Emerson is a girl, on balance it is more of a boys name.

I really like for a girl but I'm not sure if I'm brave enough to use it (though Emmy and Emma/Emer are nice 'feminine' shortenings).

AlexanderSkarsgardOhYes · 17/08/2012 19:25

Sorry, like it.

Natnat29 · 17/08/2012 19:30

Thanks Alex wow hadn't realised it was so unusual appartently there was a racing driver hence why other half suggested it- at the time partly thinking I would hate it but I actually like it :) was worried it was a but girly we need a boy name choice already hot girl one sorted. Sorry one more question do you think this name has chav potential at all?

I don't like it for a girl,but love it for a boy.

CanoeSlalom · 17/08/2012 19:44

The Emmer bit sounds like Emma, so female.

The "son" bit sounds male.

GaryTankCommander · 17/08/2012 19:46

It sounds masculine to me... Because of Emerson Fitapaldi (sp.) - off to google correct spelling.

Bunbaker · 17/08/2012 19:46

Lake and Palmer.

Sorry, I'm giving my age away here

This is for anyone younger than me.

GaryTankCommander · 17/08/2012 19:46

Fittipaldi...

scaevola · 17/08/2012 20:11

Boys name.

And it will be to any Peabody fan (even though it is a transferred surname there).

bringbacksideburns · 17/08/2012 20:13

Yes, i immediately thought of Emerson, Lake and Palmer too.

Hobbles off on zimmer

Natnat29 · 17/08/2012 20:16

Scaevola- what's Peabody?

OP posts:
parabelle · 17/08/2012 20:31

Ha ha, dh suggested it also because of Fittipaldi. He won the championship the year dh was born.

scaevola · 17/08/2012 20:57

Amelia Peabody - main protagonist in a series of murder mysteries set in archaeologists' Egypt in late Victorian/Edwardian times. Emerson is her husband.

HollyGoHeavily · 17/08/2012 21:00

Teri Hatcher named her daughter Emerson Rose so i automatically though 'girl' as i haven't heard it anywhere else

Why oh why do I know this, yet I can't remember actual useful stuff like my PIN numbers or where i parked my car....

applepieinthesky · 17/08/2012 22:57

It's unisex but I like it for a boy

Beamur · 17/08/2012 22:58

I was going to say Teri Hatcher too - I'd think of it as a unisex name but very american sounding.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 18/08/2012 08:31

Boy

germyrabbit · 18/08/2012 08:46

prog rock band, that went on a bit Grin

WopBopALooBop · 18/08/2012 09:27

I think of it as a masculine sounding girl's name and a feminine sounding boy's name. Personally I love it for a girl!! Dislike it for a boy.

NarkedRaspberry · 18/08/2012 09:33

Fittipaldi Grin
