If not Talitha...

Then what?

We're Christians and I'd like a Biblical or a name associated with our faith (as dd has) but I think this is less important to DH. We're both from very English families with a common English surname. We all use a single syllable shortening of our names.

I love Talitha (Tal) for a girl, it means little girl in Aramaic, but DH doesn't, although he can't tell me why. He doesn't really have other suggestions.

For a boy I like Dominic (Nic), which means Lord, or Benedict (Ben), which means blessed.

Do you have any suggestions that we could consider?

I love the name Zillah, but it's probably unusable (Godzilla, bridezilla etc)

Others to think about:

Dorothy/Theodora, Elizabeth, Jemima, Madeleine, Magdalena, Deborah, Lydia, Hannah, Martha, Susanna, Joanna.

And saints: Helen, Therese, Tallulah?

Huge list of female saints here.

Was there a Saint Tallulah??

Well I never . . . . . . . . .

EdithWeston · 17/08/2012 12:54

Yup - Anglicised version of Saint Tuilelath (feast day 6th January): she's one of the very old ones about whom little is known.

Tabitha and Theodore

What about Zipporah? It was the name of Moses' wife.

I always wanted to call my daughter that, but DH wasn't keen. And we had a boy

DouzeQuinze · 17/08/2012 17:48

Bethia

Napdamnyou · 17/08/2012 18:56

Thea, Theadora, or Theodore for a boy. Gift of God.

Napdamnyou · 17/08/2012 19:00

Or Anna, mother of Mary?

Napdamnyou · 17/08/2012 19:06

Or Tabitha (Acts 9:36)?
St Peter raises Tabitha from the dead using the same words Jesus used ( 'Tabitha cumi' instead of 'Talitha cumi'. )

Tabitha means 'beautiful like a gazelle'
