Arthur or Rufus?

Have name changed so people don't know my shortlist...

Please could you tell me which you prefer, bearing in mind the new popularity of Arthur (puts me off a bit) but is Rufus a bit too 'silly'?

HELP!

I love Rufus :)

MissPricklePants · 15/08/2012 21:12

Oh I love both names and considered both for my child but had a dd, great names!

growthspurt · 15/08/2012 21:20

Arthur is now no.68 on the baby names, which considering my other dcs' names are nowhere near even the top 200, is a bit popular for me, and it's bothering me. How many Arthurs are there though? Really don't want it to become the next big thing and him to end up being one of 3 in his class.

At least Rufus is less popular.

My dd is 3 and I don't know any Arthur's at nursery/play groups etc.

CanoeSlalom · 15/08/2012 21:38

Love Rufus! Much more funky than Arthur.

charlottehere · 15/08/2012 21:41

Love Rufus, know a lovley one! Like Arthur too. Smile helpful

bruffin · 15/08/2012 21:42

Rufus

Sophiesmummie · 15/08/2012 21:58

Rufus definately, as Arthurs is not only more trendy but I really dislike Art/Artie (fartie).

SirBoobAlot · 15/08/2012 21:59

Really don't like Rufus. But I also don't like super popular names Wink Arthur is nice though.

Littlecherublegs · 16/08/2012 10:03

Much prefer Rufus! Dont know of any either.

Do know of 1 Arthur though - his brothers are Frank and George.

If you like Rufus you may like Rafferty, Rafael, Rafe too?

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 16/08/2012 10:16

I know an Arthur, he's 5.

Prefer Rufus. (Bill and Ted love)

imnotmymum · 16/08/2012 10:16

Rufus.

PepperOnMyPaprikash · 16/08/2012 17:50

I love both, but prefer Rufus.

I know three Arthurs; one is six, the other two are three years old.

TheEnglishWomanInTheAttic · 16/08/2012 18:37

Arthur. I really like Arthur and strongly dislike Rufus, which conjurers up a floppy haired "nice but dim" type for me (sorry) but I have no logical reason at all for having this image of a Rufus, so obviously feel free to ignore me :)

bruffin · 16/08/2012 18:52

I just think Rufus Sewell, dark and brooding.

BombasticAghast · 16/08/2012 18:57

NOT Arthur!

(Was rare when we chose it for DS, now is racing up the charts grrrrrr)

Definitely Rufus. I'm still slightly bitter that I had girls so I couldn't use it!

0percypig0 · 18/08/2012 01:10

Artur does seem to be getting popular, there are three Arthurs under a year old at our playgroup!

JazzAnnNonMouse · 18/08/2012 08:28

Arthur is nice.
Rufus is a dog

StormGlass · 18/08/2012 20:14

I prefer Arthur.

And personally, I'd go with whichever one I liked best - there's no guarantee that Rufus will remain less popular.

blackcatsdancing · 19/08/2012 10:06

i like both. Arthur is becoming trendy in my area so i guess it will become more popular, but as someone else said you can never predict how popular a name will become. My child's name was rarely used in the UK 20 years ago, now it is in top 25!!

Fireandashes · 19/08/2012 13:09

Much prefer Rufus. Rufus travels overseas, has adventures and is swooned over by women. Arthur wears cardigans and has a library card.

(Disclaimer: other opinions are available Grin )

StormGlass · 19/08/2012 13:10

But Arthur also has a swashbuckling shiny sword that he found stuck into a stone Grin

growthspurt · 19/08/2012 14:51

Trouble is, I'd quite like him to wear cardigans and have a library card...
