Welsh baby names

For boys i like Aneurin and Taliesin - but DP's not keen!

For girls I like Arianwen and Ceridwen
I also like Cerys and Seren but both a bit too popular now.

Any suggestions would be brilliant :)

Ha ha, my DS and DD have lovers names (in that same legend) after my extensive research here on mumsnet and it real life with both Welsh speaking and non-Welsh speaking friends I found that only one person had heard the story. Which was good enough for me. Just hope they never make a film of it ;)

I also love Non, Menna, Gwilym, and Ieuan (although that would be a tongue twister with DS)

We have an Aneirin. We used the less common old fashioned spelling cos it is easier for non welsh speakers to pronounce (we live in England)

Lots of people completely bemused by the name but in a nice way!

Also liked Eira, Eirlys, Mabli, Mali, Angharad and Cari

My granny's middle name is Ayronwen. She's always been Ronnie for short. Cute I think.

shamelessly outing myself... my name is Cerian, which is beautiful with a lovely meaning. I go by ceri.

Avoid like the plague if you live in England though, unless you want a lifetime of being called kieran!

I'm a Bronwen. Love my name. People know it but it's not that popular. I know of a few but have only ever met one in person

Gruffudd. I love this and may convince DP. It's just so lovely!

I'd take some of the names listed in the link posted by myinnergoddesisatlidl with a large pinch of salt as it includes the infamous 'Artaith' as a suggestion for a girl's name. It is Welsh for torture. Also included are Cragen, Esylk and Ffanci

My sister was called Ceridwen, and I've only met one other. She was always called Ceri as an adult.

Morgan for a boy.

I have a Seren and Evan . I'm Welsh but DH is English and we live in England so had to be of the easier to pronounce Welsh names. After Evan my favourite Welsh boys name is Dafydd (couldn't be on our list due to pronunciation issues). If DS had been a girl he'd have been either Ariana or Anwen.

Iwan, Osian, Aled, Glyn, Math, Ioan.

Mared, Rhiannon, Alaw, Awen, Glesni.

I have a nephew called Macsen which is becoming more popular.

I've also heard of Lleucu for a girl and Lleu for a boy (not sure if I like those though!)

I have a Tate Aneurin and we love it.

Considered Manon, Mali, Eleri and Betsan.

I'm just checking out that website (not the Twf one, the other). I recognize about 30% of the names as Welsh. Utter, utter crap.

Some examples of aforementioned utter crap:
Torri (means Break)
Ysbail (loot)
Caniad (ring, as in "I'll give you a caniad on the phone tomorrow)
Amser (time)
Cymreiges (Welsh woman)
Rhan (part)
Toreth (abundance)

I have met faaaar too many people who have used random Welsh words as names for children, thinking "well the Welsh like nature names so it's fair game" not realizing it sounds absolutely ridiculous. Because it's a pretty sounding word, it doesn't make a name. It's like calling your child Englishwoman or Signpost, it's completely random.

My DS1 is Griffin, and we usually call him Griff .
