3-syllable pretty girls name to go with a clunky Germanic surname?

Walnut8 · 13/08/2012 07:31

I have a few shortlisted but none that seem "the one".

Our first DD is Lucia which goes really well with our surname and I can't think of any girls' names as nice!

My favourite so far is Emmeline but I'm worried that the possible mispronunciations would be the death of me (and my future DD). I also like Ariane but DH not really a fan - plus we know a little boy called Aryan.

Any suggestions or help?

Go for Ariane! Of course I am biased though as it is dd1s name Smile

Susannah, Louisa, Clementine, Elizabeth, Rosalind, Rebecca,Harriet, Eloise, Catherine.

I've just had a dd and we called her Claudia. Had lots of positive comments on it, and it could cope with a Germanic surname (channelling Claudia Schiffer here!)

We pronouce Claw-dia as opposed to Cloudia but Cloudia might be better for you?

Walnut8 · 13/08/2012 11:32

I do like Claudia too, was on my original shortlist but once again DH not sold.

Thanks for the suggestions too exoticfruits. Rosalind is pretty and a possibility. Names like Harriet and Clementine however sound too harsh or a bit flat with our surname. Does anyone else have the problem of an "exotic" surname that just doesn't sound right with many British names?

ariane5 - Smile out of curiosity, how do you pronounce your name?

4 syllable but what about evangeline ?

exexpat · 13/08/2012 11:36

Amelie/Emily, Lydia, Kezia, Sophia, Isabel?

LaGuerta · 13/08/2012 11:37

My friend with a slightly harsh sounding Germanic name has called her daughters Imogen and Beatrice. The aunt (so same surname) has the same name as your DD1

Walnut8 · 13/08/2012 11:38

I love evangeline but I think is almost too pretty/girly to go with our surname!! Sorry I know I'm being difficult.

Oh I like Imogen! Will have to run it past DH.

Also love Isabel and Sophia exex, but DH says they are too common and he's probably right. Everyone we know is naming their babies Isobel/bella or Sophie/Sophia!

I've also shortlisted Anneliese or Annalise. I really actually like Elise but doesn't sound quite as good with the SN. How much do you all think that matters anyway? Hmm.

Hermione

ariane5 · 13/08/2012 11:50

we pronounce it arry-anne. Alot of people get it wrong though and one teacher at dd1s school used to call her arry ar nee !

ariane5 · 13/08/2012 11:52

sorry arri-anne, not arry-anne

SleepyFergus · 13/08/2012 12:23

Walnut8 my DH wasn't sold on Claudia either (he liked it, prob didn't love it as much as i did) but after a very quick, drug free (not through choice, believe me) and painful birth, he would have agreed to anything I said!!

So love Imogen. Was also on our list (along with Chloe, Sophie) but our dd1 is Isabella and I was wary of having 2 DDs with the initial 'I'

Good luck, have long do you have to go?

Magdalena is very popular atm here in Germany, so I assume people feel it goes with Germanic surnames :o Also abbreviations of it used as full names - Lena and Lana/ Layna/ Alana are popular, Anna is very popular but shorter than you want - Veronica is another popular longer one, Katrina, Francesca... Most of those don't sound too Germanic but go with German surnames.
