Is alliteration always wrong?

Our surname starts with F. We are expecting a boy in November, and DH and I have wildly different ideas about suitable names (his favourite is Quincey, mine is Thomas).

Just about the only name we both like is Freddie. But DH is insisting that Freddie F- cant ever be ok. Is he right? Am not sure...

There is a definite split of opinions on this. Personally I think some alliterative names sound fantastic and it makes them memorable in a good way.

Some don't sound so great though. E.g Freddie French - prob not, Freddie Fergusson - great. IMO.

Hmm.... depends on the names imo. But if your dh doesn't like the initials F.F. then I suggest you find a name & initials you can both life with.

I think Quincey is cool, as is Quentin or Quinn!

One of my children has an alliterative name. In fact one of his middle names begins with the same letter too. Not odd at all.

I think it works. My married name is an alliteration and I much prefer it to my maiden name. DS 1 has it too.

It works if the cadence does - like Brigitte Bardot. Or Frederick Forsythe.

I think it can work - think Freddie Flintoff. That sounds better than his actual name of Andrew.

Nope, not always wrong. My maiden name was an alliteration and DS3s name is an alliteration and sounds fine. never had problems with mine.

I love it. Couldn't find a name I liked beginning with same letter as surname worse luck.

All three of my names were alliterative (maiden name). It was fun! And they spelled a word!

My DS has an alliterated name, after we dismissed the forename in our names list because of the alliteration.
It can work, but it can also look really clunky & odd (like if you changed a spelling of a name to make it alliterated).

I don't like alliteration personally, but I would certainly prefer it to Quincey - that sounds like an illness .

It definitely can work and can sound really good it just depends on how the two names sound together!

One of my dcs has an alliterative name I love it, the most common comment we get is that it sounds like he's a movie star.

One of mine has an alliterative name (similar to an olympic diver) and it sounds great

I like it. Plenty of famous examples that work well...

it will make your child's full name easier to remember and you might get a neat nickname too e.g. CeeCee or DeeDee. (although you might give PeePee a miss).

My DMIL alliterated before she got married my DMum does after.

Never thought about it before, both names sound perfectly sensible.

I don't think they're a no-no. Depends on the names whether they sound Ok or not!

My DH and I love the guy who does local news/weather in NI. His name is Barra Best-We love alliteration. Go for it.

Nothing wrong with alliteration! A friend of mine has a daughter with a name that sounds similar to Molly Marsden; another friend is called something like Natalie Newton. It's so cute! Maybe too cute for some; is that the problem that some have with alliteration?

Within reason, alliteration is fine. Rhyming however, is another matter ...
