How does this name sound in English, what associations do you have with this name? Do you find it difficult to pronounce? We are French living in the UK, and we'd like our daughter to have a French name which can be pronounced and understood by the English speakers without problems.

It's very similar to my name so I love it :-) And I also love all things French so double points from Numberlock.

SlightlySuperiorPeasant · 10/08/2012 12:34

Very nice. I'd say it Mar-gur-reet.

LurkingAndLearningLovesCats · 10/08/2012 12:35

Love it. :) But mainly because I love the nickname 'Margie' Blush

SoupDragon · 10/08/2012 12:36

It's one of DDs middle names. I pronounce it Mar-ga-reet as that is how my gran pronounced it (it was her middle name).

squoosh · 10/08/2012 12:44

Mar-guh-reet is how I'd say it. I like it!

I bet a lot of people would say mar-guh-reeta though.

Cue you saying for the umpteenth time 'Actually, no I didn't name my daughter after a pizza/cocktail'.

Badgerina · 10/08/2012 12:51

I'm afraid the pizza and cocktail association is very strong for me too, so no, not keen on it at all.

Birdies · 10/08/2012 14:29

Same here I'm afraid, I Just think of pizza. Sorry

SandStorm · 10/08/2012 14:31

Pizza - sorry.

VolAuVent · 10/08/2012 15:01

It's nice and reminds me of the flowers. I'd assume it was Mar-gure-EET.

StellaNova · 10/08/2012 15:09

I like it. I think "daisy". Pizza didn't cross my mind until I read the other posts.

monal · 10/08/2012 15:24

I think daisy, and Marguerite Duras, and she was an awesome lady.

talkingnonsense · 10/08/2012 15:54

Pizza is margarita, so not the same!

squoosh · 10/08/2012 15:59

Nope, not the same but a mistake that people will quite likely make.

SoupDragon · 10/08/2012 16:05

Just like people always call Isabelle "Isabella" :)

MoonHare · 10/08/2012 18:21

Definitely do not think 'pizza'. I know a grown up Marguerite and she is a really lovely person. Think it's a lovely name.

YouOldSlag · 10/08/2012 18:26

I think it's lovely. It's feminine and makes me think of flowers and daisies. I would say it Marg-uh-REET,

Indith · 10/08/2012 18:26

I love it :)

It is one of my mum's middle names (she is French) and she had it after an aunt. My dd is named Margaret though as since we live in the UK I preferred to have the English version. She is mostly called Daisy though Grin even by the French lot.
